  • Marissa Johnson, thank you for sharing your time and deep hiring expertise with students. Marissa explained how to craft a personal narrative even when following non-traditional career paths. Her insights showed how sustainability passion becomes a true competitive advantage when communicated thoughtfully. Members of the Leeds Career Development team attended alongside students, taking notes to help future students articulate their unique value proposition. Their close partnership provides important support for SRE Certificate students seeking meaningful, albeit less-traveled, paths. This level of guidance is invaluable for students pursuing sustainability-related careers. Marissa and the Leeds Career Development team, thank you for all your support!

I recently had the pleasure of facilitating a career development workshop with undergraduate business students at University of Colorado Boulder - Leeds School of Business through the Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility. These students are changemakers, committed to making a positive impact in the world, and many are pursuing non-traditional, self-directed career paths. My goal was to support them in their job search and give them a head start in their career (and life) by sharing some of the work I do with mid-level and senior leaders—helping them increase self-awareness and build a career based on values and strengths. Key takeaways included: ? Job searching skills are life skills—knowing what you want, how to find it, and how to talk about yourself in a way that allows people to help you will set you up for future success. ? Values-driven careers are possible—and they lead to more fulfilling, happier lives. ? Lead with strengths—leveraging what you do best (and love to do!) will differentiate you and help you rise higher. ? Authenticity creates opportunities—talk about yourself honestly and confidently so you can better connect with others. This is the kind of career guidance I wish I had in my 20s, so it felt great to pass along what I’ve learned. Thank you CESR - Leeds School of Business and Katherine Ratledge for the opportunity (and swag) and Diane Solinger for the connection! ? What career advice would you give to college seniors job searching this spring? #CareerDevelopment #ValuesDrivenJobSearch #StrengthsBasedCareers #Networking #ExecutiveCoaching #Coaching #CareerCoaching #CareerAdvice CESR - Leeds School of Business

Yesterday Morgan Buras-Finlay led a thoughtful Social Impact Measurement workshop for Leeds MBA students in CESR's Sustainability pathway. Morgan presented the Theory of Change framework to help our business students design and implement more impactful social programs throughout the course of their careers. This workshop is part of a series of Sustainability Skills Workshops that CESR offers to Leeds students throughout the year.

  • Last month Leeds students organized a tour of?TERSUS Solutions, a behind-the-scenes business providing recommerce services that keep gear from top outdoor brands out of landfills. Suggested by a CESR alumni connection and organized by Leeds' Sustainable Business Club, students travelled to Englewood, Colorado, to witness how breakthrough science technology is being paired with precise operations management to give garments new value. Students gained insights into sustainability branding, retail management, and strengthened ties with our campus's environmentally conscious community. Thank you Natalie Bovie and Ryder Nicolaus for sharing your experience! Read their full story here: https://lnkd.in/g3JFn7pr

  • We're so proud of a member of our inaugural cohort of Sustainability Scholars, Sloan Hurley, for the work she accomplished this semester with the Colorado Grain Summit. Sloan is one of those students who is pushing on all fronts in regards to sustainability. She's been a joy to work with and we're excited for what lies ahead after graduation in May. Well done, Sloan!

Honors Student-Athlete at University of Colorado Boulder - Leeds School of Business and Aspiring Change Maker in Agriculture and Food Systems

I am grateful to be so full of hope after the Colorado Grain Summit. In a massive system like the grain economy, it’s easy to lose sight of where we as individuals can make an impact. But food is deeply personal—each recipe, meal, and bite carries the stories of the people who grow and nurture what we put in our bodies every day, especially here in Colorado. At the summit, growers, millers, brewers, bakers, distributors, educators, and everyone in between came together to share their love for grain. They tell the story of the valleys and plains they’re grown on, the small towns they sustain, and the many hands that bring them from field to final product—whether in the form of pasta, a scone, or a bottle of rye whiskey. Throughout the summit these various stakeholders forged connections to strengthen and localize our Colorado grain economy.? To Audrey Paugh and Martha Sullins — I am in awe of your ability to bring together such powerhouses of the industry in this space. This summit was just the beginning, and I’m honored to have played a part in bringing it to life. It was amazing to see so many familiar faces creating beautiful change in our food systems— Liz Voss, Jodie Lindsay Popma, Susan Enfield, Libby Christensen, and so many more. My key takeaway? Buy local grains. Support the businesses creating jobs and strengthening our food economy here in Colorado. And keep an eye out for rye. One of the most important lessons I learned is the need to create markets for cover crops like rye. It plays a crucial role in encouraging crop rotation, improving soil health, and providing additional income for farmers—plus, it requires far less water than many other grains. Huge shoutout to the Rye Resurgence Project for their incredible work in making this happen!

  • We're so grateful to our CESR Advisory Board member Jeannie Renne-Malone, LEED AP, ENV SP, GGP and the whole sustainability team for hosting a trek stop at VF Corporation last month! Students studying many areas of business at University of Colorado Boulder - Leeds School of Business learned about sustainability as an opportunity and brand differentiator, as well as some of the jobs on the sustainability team. We were excited to partner with Leeds Career Development to make sustainability part of this trek and help more students see how their business skills can drive positive impact in the world. Thank you for the opportunity to participate, Angie Vermillion!

  • “Sustainability professionals need the same core skills as any other business leader.” After nearly a decade in military intelligence, Jake Davis (MBA’16) thought he wanted a career in sports journalism. But after transitioning from active duty, he realized his interests had shifted. Instead, he pursued an MBA at Leeds, where he found a path in impact investing at The Nature Conservancy. Now, Davis leads NatureVest, structuring private capital investments to support conservation efforts and financial returns worldwide. Davis stays engaged with Leeds through mentoring, mock interviews, and networking initiatives. Read more about his journey and his advice for future business leaders here: https://lnkd.in/g_TS6p7J
