I spent a great day in DC today with my colleagues Jamie Hartz, Jennifer Love, Ed.D., Gilbert Segura and Clare Schmitt, listening to testimony at a public briefing on the importance of #languageaccess for individuals with #LimitedEnglishProficiency before the United States Commission on Civil Rights. The testimony was very compelling and the passion with which witnesses spoke was often quite moving. I left inspired and energized! Thank you to all who testified, with a particular shoutout to Bill Rivers, our tireless #languageservices industry lobbyist, for, once again, so eloquently representing us! #LanguageAccessMatters! After the last few days, where language access has been at the forefront of the news in a very concerning way, I have the privilege to speak about the #positiveimpact of #languageaccess. It will be a great opportunity to discuss the critical role of language access in health disparities and equity, as well as the impact of medical interpreters in cross-linguistic and intercultural communication. Ensuring effective communication in healthcare settings is still #essential for improving patient outcomes and reducing barriers to care. It’s hard to believe that another year has gone by already, but it is once again #ISEF #volunteer #interpreter recruitment season! :-) Cesco Linguistic Services is proud to be leading the interpreter recruitment effort for ISEF for the 5th straight year. This year is the 75th anniversary of the event and it will take place in the capital of the Buckeye State, aka Columbus, Ohio, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center/ASM Global! Interpreters who have volunteered in the past know what a fulfilling experience this can be, but if you are not familiar with the event, there is a great docuseries on #Hulu and #Disney+ that will give you a sense of how thrilling it is. The revocation of EO #13166 raises serious concerns about #languageaccess, creating #confusion and #disruption, and discouraging students and families from seeking the support they need to communicate effectively with school staff, and much more.
