Latina women are drivers of economic growth, adding $1.3 trillion to our country’s economy (Source: U.S. Latina GDP Report - Bank of America). But the impact they make goes beyond the economy. Here are 5?? Latina trailblazers whose stories have changed the path of U.S. history. In 2009, Sonia Sotomayor became the first Latina — and the third woman — to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. Born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents, she has been a lifelong advocate for justice as a lawyer and then federal judge. Born in New Mexico, Nina Otero-Warren became the first female superintendent of public schools in Santa Fe, and in 1922 was the first Hispanic woman to run for U.S. Congress. Luisa Moreno came from a well-to-do family in Guatemala City, Guatemala and went on to unionize workers, lead strikes for fair labor rights and organize against police brutality in New York City, Florida, Texas and California. As a 9-year-old, Sylvia Mendez was the central figure in the landmark 1946 Mendez v. Westminster case that led to the desegregation of California schools — 8 years before the Brown v. Board of Education case. She was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011. Mexican-American Emma Tenayuca is best known for organizing Mexican workers in Texas during the 1930s and her fearless leadership of the victorious 1938 San Antonio pecan shellers strike. ??Explore more Latina contributions to U.S. history at: unidosus.org/latinohistory. #UnidosUS

Inspiring and transforming communities by addressing essential human, cultural and community needs.
关于我们
Fifty years ago, civil rights leader Cesar Chavez ignited a movement that would transform communities by championing the rights of farmworkers, Latinos, and working families. He believed it was important to support them through numerous programs, including the burial program, credit union, and cooperative gas stations. Today, the Cesar Chavez Foundation (CCF) carries on Cesar's legacy of uplifting the lives of Latinos and working families by inspiring and transforming communities through social enterprises that address essential human, cultural and community needs. CCF serves hundreds of thousands of individuals through affordable housing development, education, broadcast programming, and the National Chavez Center. With more than 600 employees across six states, CCF provides vital community services while remaining sustainable, strategic, and fiscally responsible

"Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot un-educate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore." -Cesar Chavez, Address to the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco, November 9, 1984 ?? by Emily VP Creates #CesarChavezFoundation #SiSePuede

It is with great sadness that we learned about the passing of Congressman Raúl Grijalva. U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.), the son of immigrants, became a community organizer and passionate advocate for the farm worker movement. In Congress, he coauthored bills to protect field workers from extreme heat and achieve agricultural immigration reform. As chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, he played a key role in creating the César E. Chávez National Monument. In 2021, the congressman was honored with the Cesar Chavez Legacy Award by the Cesar Chavez Foundation. ?? Rep. Grijalva (left) is pictured with UFW President Arturo S.
