Compliance Week 2024 has arrived at Certas Energy! The third annual instalment of our Compliance Week kicked off this morning with a live event in our Warrington head office, broadcast to our teams across the business. This year’s theme is Risk and Assurance, and how all our people can continue to identify, manage, and mitigate the daily risks we face in our roles to protect our colleagues, customers and the future of our business. Stephanie Beat, joined by Bruce Duncan and the rest of the fantastic Legal, Risk, and Compliance team kicked things off in style, and spoke about how we minimise the five key areas of risk most prevalent at Certas Energy; Personal Safety, Due Diligence, IT Disruption, Greenwashing, and Operational Risk. It was great to hear so many colleagues, from different roles and areas of the business, sharing their insight and experience, and learning from each other about how to make our best practice even better. We welcome the possibility of there being a transport section in the next IPCC report, as suggested by its Chair Professor Sir Jim Skea. UK domestic transport is the largest emitting sector for greenhouse gas emissions and, at the Zemo Partnership Summit, Prof. Sir Skea explained that both adaptation and mitigation is required. We already know that transitioning to HVO from standard diesel results in significant carbon emission reductions. This can immediately mitigate some of the impacts caused during the transition to net zero. Certas Energy will also continue to support the UK transport sector's efforts towards systems change which will address transport decarbonisation over the long-term. Together with senior policymakers, key public sector organisations, and businesses, we enjoyed discussing and hearing more about the need for a?just transition?to net zero for the UK's transport sector. ? Our Sustainability Lead?Oliver Bradshaw made a strong case for businesses to adopt HVO in not just their short-term plans, but the medium-term as well. ? Ollie also reiterated the need for the UK Government to play a more active role in raising awareness about the benefits of HVO, and dispelling the many myths about this sustainable liquid fuel, through further guidance and more publicly-available information. ?
