Did you know that according to the The Gender Index Report 2025, released yesterday, the Silent Generation (born between 1928 and 1945) have the highest proportion of female-led companies at 21.7% compared to male-led? And, according to Statista, the share of start-ups with at least one female founder globally is just 20%. With International Women’s Day tomorrow and World Engineering Day earlier this week, these are very timely reminders of the distance we have yet to travel to reach gender equality. Statistics shared by the United Nations and World Economic Forum show that at the current rate of progress, it will take 134 years to reach full parity... five generations from now. ? It is more important than ever that we loudly celebrate the incredible women we work with and look up to. We couldn't be more proud of our team, who are making waves in the world of neuroscience, including our fantastic CTO and founder, Elena Boto, PhD. ? Their dedication and brilliance are not only paving the way for new technologies that will transform how we understand and treat the human brain, they also inspire the next generation of girls to be all that they can be. ????? ? Thank you to all the women who inspire, innovate, and lead! Here’s to breaking boundaries, shaping the future, and getting to gender parity a whole lot quicker. ?? ? #InternationalWomensDay #WorldEngineeringDay #WomenInScience #WomenInEngineering #OPMMEG #WomenLeaders From left to right - Molly Rea, Holly Schofield, Ella Crowther, Zoe Tanner, Rebecca Guest (Morton), Phaik Hong Low, Rosie Turton, Elena Boto, PhD

At Cerca, we offer the world’s most advanced functional brain scanner, a device that will revolutionise neuroimaging.
关于我们
Cerca Magnetics Limited offer the world’s most advanced functional brain scanner – an integrated lightweight, ergonomic and wearable device that will offer an unparalleled window on human brain function, in health and disease. We have developed and brought to market the world’s first commercial, fully integrated brain imaging device based on optically-pumped magnetometers (OPMs), the Cerca OPM-MEG System. Conventional magnetoencephalography (MEG) systems employ cryogenic sensors – cooled to -269 °C using liquid Helium – to measure the extremely small fields generated by the brain. However, the need for cryogenic infrastructure severely limits usability and system performance. New breakthroughs in physics have enabled fabrication of devices that exploit the quantum properties of atoms to measure very small magnetic fields. These sensors, known as optically-pumped magnetometers (OPMs) do not need liquid helium cooling, and they are around the size of a Lego brick. This means they can be mounted on the head in a helmet, which is worn by the participant. Through this change in scanner architecture we are able to turn a half tonne, one-size-fits-all cryogenic machine with fixed sensors, into a lightweight, flexible and wearable system. Helmets can be made to fit anyone, meaning it is possible to scan adults, or babies, using the same system and because the system is wearable, sensors move with the head meaning participants can move during a scan.

At Cerca, we rely on NX every single day to bring our 3D designs to life – from helmets to patient support and even the small details like our screens. With 5 engineers using it on the daily, the server's always running, so we're very grateful to Emixa for supporting us with troubleshooting, teaching us new techniques, and collaborating on updates that allow us to push the envelope. The ability to do all our modelling in one program is by far our favourite feature!
We are excited to share our latest case study featuring Cerca Magnetics Limited, a pioneering company in the field of brain imaging technology. Cerca Magnetics has developed the world's first commercial wearable magnetoencephalography (MEG) system, offering significant improvements over conventional technology. This advancement holds great potential for diagnosing and treating neurological conditions such as epilepsy, particularly benefiting children and young people. We are proud to support Cerca Magnetics in their journey to transform patient care and make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals suffering from neurological conditions. Cerca chairman, Matt Brookes, along with our partners Margot Taylor and Benjamin Dunkley, PhD at The Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto have received just under £1 million of funding under the UK-Canada Quantum for Science Research Collaboration. ? The Nottingham team will work with neuroimaging experts in Cardiff, led by Professor Krish Singh, to investigate how to best exploit quantum sensors to measure the delicate balance of excitation and inhibition (termed E-I balance) in neural networks. This balance is critical to healthy brain function and often the target of treatments in neurological or psychiatric disease. ? Find out more about the project here https://lnkd.in/eR9TycWc

The height of innovation meets the height of fashion - dream team ????
Owner of Advanced Textile Solutions and Sewjackie , specialising in designing and manufacturing wearable accessories. Recently developed a medical cap which is being used in a brain scanning helmet.
Proud moment alert! With my B2B company, Advanced Textile Solutions Ltd, I’m delighted to have collaborated with Cerca Magnetics Limited on their latest brain scanning cap. It’s been a rewarding journey designing, manufacturing, and delivering a cap that’s nearly there- just a few in-house steps to go before it’s ready for its first steps in research. We’re excited to see how this innovation will support new discoveries- let’s see where this one takes us! #advancedtextilesolutionsltd #cercamagneticsltd #innovation #collaboration #neuroscience #researchamddevelopment

Wonderful to see the first paper from our friends in Zurich, who used their Cerca system to measure MMN responses from auditory cortex. This paper shows that #OPMMEG is ready to go straight out of the box with published results within a few months. https://lnkd.in/ewCAMrgT

It was great to have the ITV team visit us in Nottingham this week to show Martin what our system can do. To think about where OPM-MEG, specifically the Cerca system, could be in the years to come is incredibly exciting. As we work towards medical device approval, that national rollout dream is closer than ever. Subscribe to our newsletter at the link below to find out more about the Cerca system. Our first edition will be published in the coming weeks and it will be a great way to find out what we’re all about! https://eepurl.com/iI03bg https://lnkd.in/eckBpTgy

Earlier this year we won a share of Innovate UK’s Quantum Catalyst Fund, and at the recent?UK National Quantum Technologies Showcase, our CEO and CTO presented our progress to date. “OPMs, these quantum sensors, represent a step change in neuroimaging technology,” said Dr Elena Boto, CTO at Cerca. “We can put the sensors on the head, making it wearable and motion-tolerant, which is critical for accurate diagnosis in real-world settings.” Check out the full BI Foresight article below. https://lnkd.in/euPXMrAb

It's been a busy morning here in London at the Quantum Technologies Showcase. We've had some great interactions at our stand and we're looking forward to this afternoon's sessions, including a talk from David Woolger and Elena Boto, PhD, our CEO and CTO respectively, at 14:15. Do come over and have a chat with us if you're here, our model is a fantastic conversationalist and can tell you all about our system! #quantumshowcase24
