As AT Awareness Month wraps up, we're spotlightting a resource that’s making a difference: state-level AT Act programs. ?? Did you know there’s a federally funded Assistive Technology (AT) Act program in every state, designed to provide tools and resources to help people live more independently? Despite their impact, these programs often fly under the radar—even in the disability community. ?? In our latest blog, we spoke with members of North Carolina’s Assistive Technology Program (NCATP) to discuss how these programs are making a difference: - Offering equipment loans, training, and demos - Supporting all ages and abilities—no formal diagnosis needed - Partnering with schools, workplaces, and local communities to expand access ?? One standout takeaway: Assistive technology isn’t just about computers or software. It could be as simple as a weighted pen or a velcro strap—anything that makes everyday tasks easier. Learn how AT Act programs are bridging the gap between individuals and the tools they need: https://lnkd.in/gw-s9kiz #AssistiveTechnology #Accessibility #InclusiveTech #ATAwarenessMonth

This time of year always has me in a reflective mind, and given how many new folks have connected with me in the last year, I wanted to provide some background behind the work we're doing Cephable - the quick history, how we got here, and where we're going. When I started working on what would eventually become this platform, my motivation was simple: I wanted to make gaming more accessible for people who found traditional controllers and keyboards challenging. It was the height of the pandemic, and I was livestreaming on Twitch while tinkering with prototypes. What started as experimentation—using voice controls in new ways, hacking Amazon Echo speakers into controllers, turning Snapchat filters into face controllers—turned into something bigger than I ever imagined. Early on, the impact of those prototypes was already clear. People trying out these controls saw possibilities for making gaming more inclusive and accessible. And so, those experiments grew up into a platform that allowed people to use their phones or tablets to configure a controller. A small black box with microphones enabled voice commands, facial expressions, head movements, and hotkeys to transform how people interacted with their games. As adoption grew, something extraordinary happened: people found uses for these tools far beyond gaming. Students started using them to make education more accessible. Professionals used them to increase productivity at work. Therapists gamified recovery sessions in hospitals. They were used with smart TVs, robotic arms, and so much more. It was a wake-up call. What we had built wasn’t just a gaming tool—it was something that could profoundly change how people engage with the world across so many facets of life. This realization reshaped our mission. Accessibility shouldn’t come at a personal cost, and individuals shouldn’t have to pay the price for inclusion. That’s why we’re focusing on working directly with businesses to integrate these controls into their apps, devices, and services. By doing this, the same tools that once helped people play games will now empower them to navigate work, learning, and life itself. What drives us today is the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to amplify their capabilities and interact with technology in ways that work for them. Our tools are designed to be curious, playful, and problem-solving—reflecting characteristics of one of our favorite creatures, the octopus. Cephalopods inspire us with their ability to explore, learn, and adapt independently, and we strive to build tools that embody these traits. I’m so excited for what lies ahead. We’re on a journey to redefine what accessibility means—not just as a feature, but as a standard—and to make tools like these available to anyone, anywhere. This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see what we’ll build together. Let’s make the world more inclusive, more capable, and more connected. #reflection #accessibility #product
