The CEOS & CGMS Joint Working Group on Climate has recently published the 2024 #EssentialClimateVariables Gap Analysis Report, and associated Coordinated Action Plan. These documents serve to analyse the current availability of Climate Data Records, and identify gaps, shortfalls and opportunities for improvement for both current and future planned climate datasets. Clear actions to address these issues are identified in the Coordinated Action Plan, to guide CEOS & CGMS over the coming years. CSIRO is supporting a demonstrator on Ecosystem Extent for the Great Western Woodlands in Australia. The project aims to use remote sensing to map the extent of different vegetation classes at fine resolution (30 m) over the entire (> 160,000 km squared) region, to understand historic stand growth rates and response to fire disturbances. Two new sets of products have been successfully assessed as #CEOSARD compliant! ??? German Aerospace Center (DLR)'s DESIS Hyperspectral Imaging Surface Reflectance Level 2A product ??? As part of both the UK Space Agency's CEOS Chair Themes and JAXA: Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's SIT Chair Themes, CEOS is developing Common Practices for Quantifying, Reporting, Validating, and Assessing Greenhouse Gas Emissions using Remote Sensing. Working with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and Berkeley Lab, these common practices are aimed to support reporting towards the #GlobalMethanePledge. As the world increasingly seeks to use and integrate high-quality civil and commercial space data at multiple spatial, spectral, and temporal scales, CEOS seeks commercial space sector engagement that is mutually beneficial and capable of expanding global impact.
