    The world is full of business opportunities. There’s certainly no lack of things we could do. But that is also the problem. How do we choose what to work on from among the endless options? Enter the concept of Huge Outrageous Targets (HOTs). HOTs are your guideposts on your journey to #MakingBIGHappen. A HOT is a bold goal that pushes the boundaries and gives your team a clear direction. It’s the one objective that, if achieved, makes everything else pale in comparison. Over time, this approach has become a cornerstone of how we help leaders Make BIG Happen at CEO Coaching International. As entrepreneurs and CEOs, setting a HOT can be tough. We're often tempted by the next shiny object. The discipline of setting a HOT keeps us focused on what truly matters most. To determine your company’s HOT, ask yourself: “What goal, if achieved, would have the greatest impact on our business?” The right HOT should inspire, motivate, and drive your company’s culture of performance. Here are some key points for setting effective HOTs: + Set an overarching HOT for the entire company. + Teams or business units should focus on no more than two HOTs at once. + Choose battles that will ultimately win the war. + Senior leaders can veto, but not dictate. + Every HOT should have a clear finish line: “from X to Y by Z” (what to what by when). Think of your HOT as the war you need to win. Lower levels of the organization can set their own goals, but they must align with and support the overarching HOT. This way, every battle fought moves you closer to winning the war.

    Get in the mindset for BIG growth— add a 0. One of the simplest things we do to help our clients think BIG is the "Add a Zero” exercise. Take one of your key metrics, add a zero, and then discuss what you must do to #MakeBIGHappen. If your annual revenue is $20 million, add a zero, and you get $200 million. If your current largest client is $50,000 annually, add a zero, and you get $500,000. You get the idea. The magic happens when you discuss what you must do to go from $20 million in revenue to $200 million or from $50,000 clients to $500,000 clients. You must completely change your approach to achieve the “times ten” jump. Incremental thinking will not get you there. You must go exponential. By pursuing the “times ten” leap, you force yourself to develop new, “exponential” strategies that will help you grow at warp speed.
