We finance, build, and operate exceptional affordable housing to promote dignity, health, and economic independence.

关于我们

Century Housing is committed to creating affordable housing. As a network of nonprofit affiliates, we finance, develop, and manage exceptional affordable housing communities across California. From our start in 1995, Century Housing Corporation has grown into a leading Community Development Financial Institution providing end-to-end financing for affordable and workforce housing. We have invested more than $2.8 billion in communities throughout California, creating more than 58,000 affordable and workforce homes. Century also serves as a skilled partner with developers, government agencies, and other CDFIs in pioneering innovative financing programs. We also develop and manage affordable and supportive housing through affiliates such as Century Affordable Development, Inc., Century Oasis Residential Services, and Century Villages at Cabrillo, our award-winning, 27-acre supportive housing community with more than 1,500 residents in Long Beach. We are a principal developer with our partners on master-planned communities including the West LA VA North campus and Rancho San Pedro. Century was born from one of the largest public works projects in U.S. history. In 1972, planning began on the Century (105) Freeway, a major thoroughfare that would connect the Los Angeles Airport to the city of Norwalk. Residents affected by the proposed freeway fought the construction and filed litigation seeking to temporarily halt construction. In 1979, a solution was reached: the creation of the Century Freeway Housing Program. This state agency was tasked with creating nearly 4,000 units of affordable housing for those displaced by the freeway's construction along with providing minority and female employment opportunities. Having successfully exceeded its initial housing development goal, the agency was privatized and renamed as Century Housing Corporation. Century remains the only known California state program converted into a private, nonprofit organization.

Exciting news—Liv DTLA, a Century-financed development, has completed construction! This project will provide 227 permanent supportive homes through the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority's master-leasing program, following the model of its sister development, Vida DTLA, which Century also helped finance. This is a major milestone for Downtown LA and for those who will soon call it home. Congratulations to Housing Diversity Corporation and all the partners who made this possible! #CDFI #AffordableHousing #DTLA

How do freeways shape our communities? And who pays the price when they’re built? Century Housing President & CEO Daniel Lopez recently joined LA County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell’s Racial Justice Learning Exchange to reflect on the lasting impact of the Century Freeway (I-105) and the displacement it caused. For Century Housing, this history is deeply personal. Our organization was created as a result of the Keith v. Volpe lawsuit, which led to a landmark consent decree requiring housing mitigation for those displaced by the freeway’s construction. What began as a court-mandated program grew into Century Housing, which has spent the past 30 years financing, building, and operating affordable housing across California. We appreciate Supervisor Mitchell’s office for facilitating this important discussion and bringing together so many voices dedicated to equitable community development. As we reflect on the past, we remain committed to ensuring that housing remains accessible for all. ?? We’re proud to continue Housing Heroes—a campaign recognizing individuals shaping the future of affordable housing and community development. Today, we spotlight Jimar Wilson, Vice President and Southern California Market Leader at Enterprise Community Partners, whose leadership is driving lasting change across the region. At Enterprise, Jimar leads initiatives to preserve affordable housing, advance racial equity, and strengthen economic opportunities for families across Southern California. His work focuses on ensuring that housing policy, investment, and community-driven solutions come together to create real impact. But for Jimar, this work isn’t just about strategy—it’s personal. "I was eager to learn how to address the disparities I saw growing up, and that curiosity led me to urban planning, community development, and ultimately, a lifelong mission to remove barriers for others," he shares. Raised in South Los Angeles in a working-class, single-parent household, Jimar experienced both struggle and joy. Housing and food insecurity were a reality, but so was the encouragement of his family, teachers, and mentors—people who instilled in him the confidence to succeed. That foundation shaped his drive to ensure others have access to the same opportunities and support. Beyond Enterprise, Jimar serves on nonprofit boards, mentors emerging leaders, and teaches at LA Trade-Technical College. He’s driven by working parents striving for a better future, young people tackling today’s challenges, and the belief that barriers are meant to be broken: "I want to motivate and encourage the next generation while also helping to remove barriers standing in their way—just as so many caring people did for me." As we celebrate Black History Month, we are honored to spotlight Jimar Wilson as a Housing Hero—a leader dedicated to building stronger, more inclusive communities. #HousingHeroes #BlackHistoryMonth #AffordableHousing

  • We’re proud to continue Housing Heroes, a campaign highlighting individuals creating lasting change in housing, public policy, and economic opportunity. Today, we recognize?Jahrell Thomas, Chief Operations Officer of the Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD), whose work is driven by service, dedication, and a deep commitment to his community. For more than two decades, Jahrell has worked to create permanent and supportive housing, develop workforce training and education programs, and provide opportunities for those facing the highest barriers. But for him, this work is not just a profession—it’s personal. "Changing lives is not a job or a check—it is my reality,"?Jahrell says. His passion stems from lived experience. As a child, he and his family found refuge in a shelter after leaving an abusive home. He saw firsthand the effects of homelessness, gang violence, and limited opportunity. But instead of letting those challenges define him, they became his motivation. Guided by mentors and fueled by purpose, he committed himself to creating pathways for others to succeed. "I refuse to allow youth and young adults who did not create their conditions to stay in environments that keep them from success,"?he shares. "I am a Black leader who will forever be a servant to those who just require a little support and guidance." Jahrell’s motivation is perhaps best captured in his own words: "I am pain, before the healing. A child who grew up before his time… It's not about me, it's about you. My ‘me’ comes when your inner ugly knows it is beautiful.” His story is one of transformation, leadership, and the power of community. This Black History Month, we are honored to recognize Jahrell Thomas?as a Housing Hero?for his unwavering dedication to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive. #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM2025 #HousingHeroes
