We finance, build, and operate exceptional affordable housing to promote dignity, health, and economic independence.

关于我们

Century Housing is committed to creating affordable housing. As a network of nonprofit affiliates, we finance, develop, and manage exceptional affordable housing communities across California. From our start in 1995, Century Housing Corporation has grown into a leading Community Development Financial Institution providing end-to-end financing for affordable and workforce housing. We have invested more than $2.8 billion in communities throughout California, creating more than 58,000 affordable and workforce homes. Century also serves as a skilled partner with developers, government agencies, and other CDFIs in pioneering innovative financing programs. We also develop and manage affordable and supportive housing through affiliates such as Century Affordable Development, Inc., Century Oasis Residential Services, and Century Villages at Cabrillo, our award-winning, 27-acre supportive housing community with more than 1,500 residents in Long Beach. We are a principal developer with our partners on master-planned communities including the West LA VA North campus and Rancho San Pedro. Century was born from one of the largest public works projects in U.S. history. In 1972, planning began on the Century (105) Freeway, a major thoroughfare that would connect the Los Angeles Airport to the city of Norwalk. Residents affected by the proposed freeway fought the construction and filed litigation seeking to temporarily halt construction. In 1979, a solution was reached: the creation of the Century Freeway Housing Program. This state agency was tasked with creating nearly 4,000 units of affordable housing for those displaced by the freeway's construction along with providing minority and female employment opportunities. Having successfully exceeded its initial housing development goal, the agency was privatized and renamed as Century Housing Corporation. Century remains the only known California state program converted into a private, nonprofit organization.

This Native American Heritage Month, Century Housing honors the rich traditions and enduring contributions of Native communities while recognizing the systemic barriers many Native American individuals face, including inequities in housing and health care. These challenges, compounded by the lasting effects of intergenerational trauma, highlight the importance of culturally informed solutions. At Century Villages at Cabrillo in Long Beach, American Indian Changing Spirits (AICS) provides personalized recovery services rooted in Native traditions. The program offers 24/7 support, including counseling, 12-step recovery meetings, and cultural activities such as sweat lodge ceremonies, talking circles, and beading classes. In 2022 alone, AICS served 132 individuals, fostering healing, connection, and wellness. We deeply appreciate the transformative work AICS brings to the Villages. We’re thrilled to support Alliance Property Group’s recent purchase of Queen Apartments in Los Angeles through acquisition financing. This project ensures that affordable rents will be preserved for low-income families in 96 apartments. Century Housing is proud to partner with APG, providing financing that aligns with their vision to create spaces where people can thrive. Last year, we spoke with APG President Danielle Curls Bennett about Valley Pride Village, a senior rental community that APG saved from becoming market-rate housing. One resident, Karen, shared how Valley Pride Village gave her a place to call home for the first time in 45 years. ?? Watch our short film, Lending a Helping Hand: https://bit.ly/41N0Ft3 ?? The City of Redondo Beach, in partnership with the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG), has achieved functional zero street homelessness—a testament to their commitment to strengthening the South Bay community through collaboration and care. We’re honored to celebrate this milestone and to have contributed through the creation of The Moonstone, our Homekey conversion by Century Affordable Development, Inc. The Moonstone provides 20 permanent supportive homes in Redondo Beach for residents who have experienced chronic homelessness. Many of these individuals transitioned through the housing continuum established by the City of Redondo Beach and SBCCOG. ?? Watch this ABC7 Los Angeles report: https://lnkd.in/g2nxtsBv ?? In honor of Native American Heritage Month, we’re proud to recognize our longtime partner, Rebecca Louie, President & CEO of Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation. Rebecca’s story is one of resilience, understanding, and a lifelong commitment to her Alaska Native (Tlingit/Aleut) roots, which guide her mission to create affordable housing that heals and uplifts. Reflecting on her childhood in Anchorage, Rebecca shares, “When I was growing up in Alaska in the 1970s and 80s, homelessness was almost synonymous with being Alaskan Native. While there wasn’t anywhere near the crisis of homelessness that there is today, the people who were there on the streets were almost unfailingly Native. The faces I saw on the sidewalks looked so much like my relatives, and I had several family members who were in and out of homelessness—including my favorite uncle, who was incredibly smart, kind, and successful. As a young person it was hard to understand and at times I even felt embarrassed by it, like there was something wrong with us.” Her perspective changed when she left Alaska to study Urban Studies and Planning at UC San Diego. There, she began to understand the systemic racism impacting Indigenous communities. “I learned about the boarding schools and generations of trauma they caused. I learned what happened to my uncle when he was forced to go to one, and suddenly everything made sense. I learned what it means to have your culture and land taken from you, and what that does to your soul. With each new understanding, my desire to be part of righting these wrongs grew.” This journey led Rebecca to Wakeland Housing, where, over the past 20 years, she has helped develop over 8,500 affordable homes, each paired with transformative services. “It’s challenging work, but for me and the rest of Wakeland’s employees, it’s worth it if we can help even one person like my uncle heal and thrive.” We at Century Housing are honored to collaborate with Rebecca and Wakeland in creating affordable homes for those in need. Thank you, Rebecca, for your dedication to creating housing that goes beyond shelter. Your story reminds us that affordable housing is essential to justice, healing, and a brighter future. #affordablehousing #housingdevelopment #CDFI #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth

As we observe Veterans Day, we’re proud to share a powerful reflection from Richard Pacheco, a Veteran and case manager with Century Oasis Residential Services. Drawing from his own experiences, Richard brings empathy and understanding to his work, helping fellow Veterans find stability and healing through housing. For Richard, each Veteran’s journey is a new mission. He’s witnessed transformations as Veterans move from homelessness to stable housing, gain access to essential medical care, and reconnect with their families. His dedication exemplifies our commitment to building supportive communities, like The Moonstone and Century Villages at Cabrillo, where Veterans are empowered to thrive. ?? This Veterans Day, we honor the remarkable legacy of Judge Harry Pregerson—a decorated WWII Marine Corps Veteran and the driving force behind Century Housing’s mission of service, justice, and community. Known as the heart behind the “Freeway with a Heart,” Judge Pregerson oversaw the litigation that transformed the Century (105) Freeway from a traditional infrastructure project into a model of equity and compassion. His leadership in the case led to a landmark affordable housing program, creating thousands of homes for residents displaced by the freeway’s construction and advocating for environmental protections and local job creation. Under his guidance, the Century Freeway Housing Program transitioned from a state agency to an independent nonprofit, Century Housing—furthering his vision for lasting community impact. Judge Pregerson’s dedication extended to creating Century Villages at Cabrillo, a 27-acre community in Long Beach that has become a national model for supportive housing. His commitment to Veterans and underserved populations lives on through this vibrant, therapeutic community that provides housing and resources to those in need. Beyond Century, Judge Pregerson was also a founding force behind U.S.VETS, Century's close partner which provides?vital housing and support for Veterans across the country. Today, Judge Pregerson’s legacy lives on as Century continues his mission to create communities where every resident has the opportunity to thrive. For more than two decades, Century Housing has had the privilege of partnering with Stephen Peck in service of Veterans and others in need. From his foundational role shaping Century Villages at Cabrillo to supporting U.S.VETS' Westside Residence Hall and our current work at the West LA VA campus, Steve has been an invaluable ally and friend. Steve’s work at the Villages focused on building a therapeutic community from the ground up on a former naval housing site. Inspired by the late Judge Harry Pregerson—a decorated WWII Veteran and founder of both U.S.VETS and Century Housing—Steve brought together multiple service providers and developed a framework to support Veterans’ fundamental needs, from public transportation to critical infrastructure. The success of the Villages has guided our collaboration at the West LA VA, where we’re building an even larger community dedicated to Veterans through The Veterans Collective. Century proudly salutes Steve for his service as a Marine Corps Veteran and his lasting contributions to Veteran communities throughout Southern California and beyond. #VeteransDay #Veterans #HonoringVeterans
