Today Centrus President and CEO Amir Vexler announced that we are restarting centrifuge manufacturing and expanding capacity at our centrifuge manufacturing facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee — laying the groundwork to support a potential large-scale expansion of our uranium enrichment facility in Piketon, Ohio. We will invest approximately $60 million in this effort over the next 18 months, to jump-start what we hope will grow into a multi-billion dollar public and private investment in restoring America’s uranium enrichment capacity at a large scale. That’s what we are working toward … and we’ll do it with American technology, built by American workers in Oak Ridge, and supported by a nationwide supply chain of American companies in at least 13 states. https://lnkd.in/eRZe_qAp

Fun fact: last year, America’s nuclear reactors used about 5,000,000 pounds of enriched uranium and produced 19% of our electricity.?That compares to 774,000,000,000 pounds of coal producing 16% of U.S. electricity. While America needs a diverse mix of energy resources, the energy density of enriched uranium and the supreme reliability of nuclear plants is unmatched.

This is the only NRC-licensed #HALEU production facility in the United States, and one of just two licensed for LEU production.? The NRC plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective operation of America’s nuclear facilities.? NEW DATA: According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Georgia’s two new nuclear reactors at Plant Vogtle churned out more than 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours in August.?That’s around 98% of their rated summer capacity, demonstrating nuclear’s ability to deliver 24-7-365 clean energy.?With their help, the U.S. nuclear industry is on track to achieve its highest annual output since 2020, prior to the premature shutdowns of reactors in New York, Michigan, and Iowa.
