Central Hudson

This #ThrowbackThursday takes us to January of 1998 when Central Hudson helped restore power after devastating storms dropped several inches of ice and freezing rain on parts of northern New York and Canda. More than 3 million customers in the northeast and Canada lost electricity from the storms. The crews pictured here were being ferried by boat across the St. Lawrence River to assist in restoration efforts. Mutual aid assistance following major storms remains a vital part of storm restoration. Central Hudson enlists mutual aid forces to expedite repairs here during major storms and we provide mutual aid services elsewhere when called upon. Earlier this year, Central Hudson was honored by the Edison Electric Institute for helping to restore power in Georgia following Hurricane Helene in 2024. Central Hudson is celebrating 125 years of serving the Mid-Hudson Valley (and sometimes beyond) in 2025.

Central Hudson recently upgraded electric infrastructure in Newburgh near Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. It’s just one example of how we’re strategically modernizing systems to ensure safety, reliability and build for the future.

“Innovative Infrastructure & Building” was the theme of yesterday's Orange County Chamber of Commerce New York meeting. Central Hudson CEO Steph Raymond served as a panelist at the event, describing important investments we’re making to provide reliable and resilient infrastructure throughout the region.

This #ThrowbackThursday brings us to 1985 when Central Hudson placed new submarine transmission lines in service crossing the Hudson River from Poughkeepsie to Highland. The lines replaced existing open-wire lines which crossed the river on the Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge, which is known today as Walkway Over the Hudson State Park. Central Hudson is celebrating 125 years of serving the Mid-Hudson Valley in 2025.

Our 15th annual Solar+ Summit was on Thursday. We organize the event each year to improve customer experience, support renewable energy and provide guidance about industry changes. The Solar+ Summit connects Central Hudson’s solar energy experts with industry professionals, government officials and educators. Topics included regulatory updates, incentive programs, permitting & construction processes, and the market outlook for solar energy and storage.
