关于我们
Central Virginia Community Justice provides a brave space for those involved in harm to lead their own accountability and healing. We facilitate restorative conferences to divert cases away from the criminal system, as well as to repair harms outside of the system. Through dialogue, those impacted by harm have voice and agency to address their needs, and those responsible for harm have the opportunity to take accountability through actions and acknowledgement. We are a nonprofit program (fiscally sponsored by SEE, Social & Environmental Entrepreneurs) serving Albemarle County & Charlottesville City. For more information, contact [email protected].

After her RJ process, Jamila expressed full confidence that the agreement would be fulfilled and indicated that she felt greater well-being now than before RJ. ???? To find out what happened in the meeting, click here: https://lnkd.in/ens5SuP3 Did you know that ??% of the people who completed a participant survey about their restorative justice experience with CVCJ 'Agreed' or 'Strongly Agreed' that the agreement repaired the harm as much as possible? And participants averaged 9.2 on a scale of 1-10 when asked if they would recommend CVCJ to another person in their situation. To make this experience possible for even more people, please give today!

?? A restorative justice process at CVCJ is about more than just talking about the incident that occurred. Facilitators work with participants to dig into the root causes behind the incident to understand why the harm happened, and what can be done to keep it from happening again. Click here to read more about what was uncovered in Jamila & Rob's groundwork meetings: https://lnkd.in/ens5SuP3 ?? CVCJ staff spent 180 hours working on this case from intake to closure. This dedication to getting to know our participants and fully preparing them for a safe and productive dialogue is part of the game plan that makes our restorative justice work a winning proposition. Donations from the community are what allows us to provide these high quality services to meet the needs of our participants. ?? Every $35 you give provides an hour of RJ services.

?? Jamila* had an injured foot and a distressed son; Rob had been charged with a crime. ?? Rob was Jamila’s son’s coach, and they had had conflict around her son losing his captain’s role on the team. In the parking lot one day after practice, Jamila walked up to Coach Rob, in his car, to talk. When Rob quickly drove off to avoid Jamila, he ran over her foot unintentionally. Jamila was injured and upset; Rob was charged with a hit and run and let go from his coaching position. This story could have ended there with a typical prosecution: no interaction, no understanding, and a criminal conviction permanently on Rob’s record. Instead, Jamila & Rob decided to give restorative justice a try.... ?? ?? Watch this page - the rest of Jamila & Rob's story will be shared throughout the week, and can be found at the link in the chat. *Names and details changed for confidentiality.

?? SNEAK PEEK! ?? CVCJ is being featured in an upcoming documentary series titled Compassion in Action. Check out these behind-the-scenes photos from our day of filming! Many thanks to the staff, participants, and attorney who were interviewed, the Washington and Lee University film crew, The Point Church in Charlottesville, VA for the use of their beautiful space, and to Sticks Kebob Shop Pantops for the contribution to our lunches for the day. It is support like this that makes it possible for us to continue to provide restorative justice for the community!

When Doug was hit by a car while exercising, he worried that it was a purposeful strike by a driver not wanting to share the road. Listen to this story from Radio IQ/WVTF Public Radio to learn what really happened, and how the two people involved worked together to promote road safety moving forward. ?? ??We honor the bravery of these CVCJ participants, who not only engaged in a vulnerable restorative justice process, but continue to share their stories and experiences to promote community safety and restorative responses to harm. https://lnkd.in/eUYEbmZZ
