Last week we celebrated the reopening of the sprayground at Activity Center Park! We are thankful for Dayton Children's Hospital's generous partnership on the sprayground renovation. Outdoor play is crucial for kids' bodies and minds, and like us, DCH knows how important it is for our community to have fun ways to stay active and healthy! We expect these renovations to extend the life of the sprayground by 15 - 20 years.

关于我们
The Centerville-Washington Park District (CWPD) was created in 1959 by local residents with the foresight to realize that areas must be set aside as parks, while the community was developed with homes and businesses. The majority of funding for the Park District comes from a tax levy on the residents of Centerville and Washington Township. Over 1,030 acres have been preserved at 51 park locations in Centerville and Washington Township. CWPD is a Township Park District, a special district separate from the city of Centerville and Washington Township. The Park District is governed by a 3-member Board of Park Commissioners, who are appointed by the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas. Natural areas, scenic parks, and quality outdoor education, recreation, and fitness programs help make our community a special place to live. Continued local support, cooperation with other agencies, and great volunteers enable the Park District to meet the park and outdoor recreation demands of current and future generations.

We are making memories for them, and they are making memories for us! Great feature article from CWPD staffer Alyssa Schulte, CPRP!
"While writing this story, I kept returning to some of my favorite summer camp counselor memories — such as the camper who used to be afraid of the creek, running up to me with the largest bullfrog I had ever seen. Heartwarming? Absolutely. Inspirational? Nothing groundbreaking. I tried coming up with the funniest camp moment to discuss — that perfectly timed joke from a witty camper or laughs with co-counselors after a long day. Story after story led me to a reminiscent chuckle and the quintessential, 'Ah, you had to be there.' But that sentence stuck with me for a moment — 'You had to be there.' How often does that get lost in our day? As park and recreation professionals, we get to be there. We get to be part of making lifelong memories for children in our camps. We get to be there enriching older adults at the community center. We get to be there maintaining parks for our community to enjoy. We get to be there, bringing joy, relationships, confidence, growth, presence, grit and resilience." Park and recreation professionals do so much to ensure community members have opportunities for memorable experiences. But, it is easy to get wrapped up in the hecticness of summer programming. Read the article from Alyssa Schulte, Fitness and Wellness Supervisor for the Centerville-Washington, Ohio, Park District, it will perfectly ground you in your work! https://lnkd.in/eMkdcej3 #PowerOfParks #WhereYouBelong #ParksAndRec #ParkAndRecMonth2024 #ParkAndRecMonth

CWPD received an $8,500 grant from the Brighter Tomorrow Foundation to install a powered universal changing table in the Activity Center Park family restroom, improving the park experience for visitors with disabilities and their caregivers. This new park amenity, located at the park’s shelter, is now available for park visitors! Universal changing tables are designed to support older children and adults with developmental disabilities, medical conditions, or other special needs that require incontinence care. These tables provide a private, safe and dignified space for individuals to manage their personal hygiene needs. Thank you, Brighter Tomorrow Foundation! And, thank you to the Ohio chapter of Changing Spaces Campaign for consulting on this installation!

In continuing our celebration of National Volunteer Month, we extend a BIG thank you to Rotary Club of Centerville for their help in purchasing and installing benches along the new paved path at Grant Park - McEwen Entrance. These benches are the final piece of a 3-year partnership to create a new front door to Grant Park that included additional parking, a Rotary memorial plaza, restoration of the historic barn, and paved paths and sidewalk that gives everyone access to nature. The club's support and service was a catalyst for the creation of this new space for the community to enjoy! Thank you!

We have amazing volunteers! How would you like to work with them? We're hiring a part-time Community Engagement Coordinator to attract, retain, and engage volunteers; cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners; and, oversee the development and execution of outreach programs and events that increase community involvement and awareness of Park District initiatives. https://lnkd.in/gwgBBb-H
