The first known case of clade I mpox has been confirmed in the U.S. and is related to outbreaks in Central and Eastern Africa. The overall risk of clade I mpox to the U.S. public remains low. CDC has confirmed the 1st U.S. case of H5 bird flu in a child. The case was found to be presumptive positive by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) through surveillance in the state. The patient had mild symptoms, received flu antivirals, and is recovering. An investigation by CDPH into the child’s possible H5 exposure source is ongoing.
