Centerpoint Medical Center recently partnered with the Independence Fire Department, the Chief of Emergency Operations for the City of Independence, and the Fort Osage Career and Technology Center to hold an emergency preparedness exercise, “Centerpoint of Oz”, to test and practice our response to a major tornadic event. The drill simulated the normal escalation of a severe weather event, starting with a thunderstorm warning, a tornado watch, and then a tornado warning. The drill included setting up and facilitating a command center along with the Independence Fire Department conducting Med Sled Evacuation practice.

When Centerpoint Medical Center patient, Charles, couldn’t make it to his car club’s kick-off cruise, he was disappointed. Our house supervisor, Joe, wasn't going to let that happen. Joe coordinated for the cruise to come by the hospital! More than 20 cars made up of Muscle Madness Car Club and Chicks with Power MoKan drove through the hospital circle drive allowing Charles to see all of his friends that he calls his family and be a part of the cruise. Arranging special moments for our patients is one more way our colleagues are Caring Like Family! #WeShowUp

The Sunflower Award is given to support staff who consistently demonstrate integrity, respect, and show extraordinary compassionate care and service towards patients, visitors and colleagues.
