The Center for Open Data Enterprise (CODE) is an independent nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. Founded in January 2015, CODE works in the areas of climate adaptation and resilience, health, equity, and democratizing data. We collaborate with diverse partners, including federal and state governments, academia, international organizations, private entities, and representatives from civil society and communities. As an organization, we aim to foster dialogue and dissemination around data for public good and social justice in the areas of climate, health, equity, and democratizing data. We connect the government and communities to discuss the use of data and its challenges around transparency, accessibility, and accountability, thereby enhancing the value and impact of data-driven initiatives. This inclusive engagement underscores the significance of open data in fostering a more interconnected and informed society.

I had the amazing opportunity to be a featured panelist at the inaugural Privacy and Public Policy Conference on the "Best Practices for Sharing Data & Future Implications for Other Domains" panel. The session fostered an insightful discussion on balancing data sharing with privacy regulations and explored the future implications of data access across various including healthcare and education. I was able to contribute my perspective from the data for equity and public good space, highlighting how thoughtful data sharing can drive equitable outcomes and serve broader societal needs while maintaining privacy safeguards. During the discussion, we touched on the role of regulations like HIPAA and NIH guidelines in safeguarding sensitive data and highlighted innovative solutions around building privacy programs, the role of cryptographic systems in data privacy, and use of AI and synthetic data in this space. A big thank you to my fellow panelists: Nawar Shara at MedStar Health and Georgetown University's AI CoLab, Kelsey Finch at Snowflake, and Gabriel Kaptchuk at University of Maryland And, of course, to the organizers for making this conference possible: Urban Institute, Alfred P. Muneeb Malik, PMP?, CODE's Project Manager - Data and Innovation Initiatives, presented our Climate Data for Adaptation and Resilience Typology (DART) at the recent workshop on "Strengthening the Climate Change Data Ecosystem (CCDE): Senegal and the region". Climate DART identifies and prioritizes the focus areas, drivers, and relevant factors that contribute to the risk of climate impacts or support adaptation and resilience.?National and local governments, NGOs, academics, and development partners can leverage Climate DART to use data for climate risk assessment, adaptation, and resilience. The regional workshop disseminated the results of the collaborations between ANSD, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, PARIS21 and other development partners on climate change data and exploring venues for strategic scaling-up support in Senegal and the region.
