For our theater-based Career Day, students from Center for Family Life at PS 503/506 were invited to visit the The Public Theater in Manhattan last Friday. Students saw the behind-the-scenes of working in the arts, observed costume making and set design, and even saw a private rehearsal of a brand-new play!?? Thank you to The Public Theater for a wonderful and informative visit!

Yesterday we held our annual College, Career, & Community-Building Day at Sunset Park High School! Students learned about career pathways from over 80 NYC professionals, the college application process from 20 college students (most of them SPHS alumni!), engaged in community-building exercises, and played College Jeopardy. Thank you to our Career Guests and college panelists who volunteered their time and expertise!

?? Happy Year of the Snake! ?? At PS503/PS506, we celebrated the Lunar New Year by hosting an evening of community and cultural exchange for families that included Chinese music and dance, art, games, and food. Thanks to all who attended and made this event so special!

The NYC Department of Youth & Community Development Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) Application is NOW AVAILABLE for youth between the ages of 14-24 years old. SYEP is the nation's largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience for 6 weeks in July and August. Youth that are 14 and 15 years old will participate in project-based learning, earning up to $700 for the 6 weeks of the program. Youth that are 16-24?years old will earn $16.50 an hour and are eligible to work up to 25 hours a week for the 6 weeks. Participants have the opportunity?to explore?their interests and career pathways, develop workplace skills, and engage in learning experiences that help develop their social, civic, and leadership?skills!
