With my submission on Wednesday, I'm excited to share that I've entered a podcast into the CCSE Podcast Competition every year of my college career! Center for C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement hosts the podcast competition every year in the aim to encourage undergraduate research, improve multimedia presentation skills, and give students an opportunity to?win cash prizes. Entries are submitted into one of three different categories and must be between 14 to 16 minutes long. All of my mini-documentaries have centered around the political, but it's been such a great learning experience telling these very different stories in very different ways. Over the last four years, I've detailed Rudy Giuliani's fall from grace, the life of C-SPAN founder of Brian Lamb and the Watergate scandal from the perspective of journalists Woodward and Bernstein. But my latest entry, "Like a Whisper," details the fifty years of Assad control in Syria, and how the familial trade in oppression sewed their own downfall. Yesterday, I had the amazing opportunity to meet Sam Feist, the CEO of C-SPAN! He came to Purdue (the alma mater of Brian Lamb, the founder) and hosted an insightful town hall with the Center for C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement. From the importance of nonpartisan political journalism to how networks will be expected to evolve with short form media, he provided thoughtful insights on the challenges and responsibilities of C-SPAN's news coverage. He also shared inspiring advice on maintaining a positive outlook amidst the chaos of today's media and political landscape, and was happy to answer any and all questions we threw at him! A huge thank you to Mr. Feist for taking the time to engage with Purdue students and to the CCSE for organizing such a meaningful discussion!
