Building the workforce of highly trained caregivers that Californians can’t live without.
关于我们
The Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA) is the largest provider of training for long-term care workers in California. Our mission is to build the workforce of highly trained caregivers that many Californians can’t live without. We will champion training for all caregivers and make it universally accessible. We believe that trained caregivers will be respected and valued professionals who have been proven to enhance the quality of life and save money for our overburdened healthcare system. Our efforts will create jobs and upward mobility for the millions of people who are needed as caregivers in California. With the wave of the baby boomers in or approaching retirement age, 10,000 people will turn 65 every day for the next 15 years, which creates systemic pressures and the need for growth of the long-term care workforce. CCA is working to enhance the skills of direct care workers, who are predominantly women of color and immigrants, that are needed to support this diverse aging population.

PHI - Quality Care Through Quality Jobs and the National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) released a first-of-its-kind report entitled "Together in Care: Empowering Direct Care Workers to Meet Growing Demand for Care."?The report makes the case for investing in caregivers and strengthening the partnerships between family caregivers and direct care workers. ? The report features the evidence-informed intervention designed and implemented by CCA. A 60.5-hour training program for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) workers led to caregivers and consumers agreeing they were getting better care and better communication.?They also found consumers experienced reduced ER visits and rehospitalizations two years after the training.? ? CCA is proud to have provided input on this report and we are excited for the vital discussion that will follow! https://lnkd.in/eXdXBspS

Juneteenth represents a pivotal moment in our history that recognizes the value and dignity of the formerly enslaved Africans in the United States. The Center for Caregiver Advancement was founded on the values of recognizing and respecting the rights of working African Americans and other communities of color. We strive to strengthen their position in the working world. We aim to amplify their voices. We work to create opportunities for African Americans because we know this affirms justice for everyone. We are always a work in progress, and we invite you to learn more about us at advancecaregivers.org. #cca #juneteenth #caregiver

????? Happy Pride Month! As an organization built on the foundation of social justice and solidarity, we stand strong with our LGBTQ+ community members in their fight for equality. Across the country, the right to exist safely is at risk for queer individuals. CCA remains committed to not only highlighting the intersection of our staff, the caregivers we train and the consumers/residents they serve, but also actively educating our team on the importance of LGBTQ issues. This month, and every month, we strive to support our queer and gender-nonconforming friends and celebrate the unique lived experience that makes us better as a society.

Earlier this week, a diverse group of advocates visited the state capitol in Sacramento to support the Career Pathways Program (CPP).? CPP provides training to in-home supportive service (IHSS) providers. IHSS providers care for some of California’s most vulnerable citizens. We know that high-quality training through CPP yields impressive results. Higher knowledge gain, less turnover, and even a 46% reduction in ER visits and inpatient utilization. Without programs like CPP, caregivers don’t get the training they need and consumers don’t get the care they need.? One of our consumer allies described the current lack of standards and training requirements so well: “all they really do is tell you not to commit fraud.” Unfortunately, CPP is on the chopping block in a difficult budget year. We risk eliminating a critical source of training for a workforce of over 650,000 people, mostly women of color over the age of 45. The people they care for are aging, blind or disabled and require assistance to live safely on their own. We told more than thirty legislative offices that investing in CPP will lead to better skills for caregivers and better health outcomes for consumers. A difficult economy is precisely the time to redouble our efforts and prioritize the most vulnerable and those who care for them. The state officials that we met were moved by these stories and our work.? They certainly now know more about CPP than they did before. CPP is one of many programs that face severe budget cuts this year.? And while everyone understands you have to make tough choices in a tough economy, we wanted to make sure our legislators know that CPP isn’t just about numbers.? CPP provides high quality training to our students. It helps real people.? It achieves real results. The outcomes of our efforts are still in play and, until then, we are full speed ahead - sounding the alarm until the final state budget comes out.? Meantime, I hope you will contact your legislator and tell them to support CPP. #ProtectCPP

Meet Fei Tian, an IHSS provider for both of her parents and a student in our Career Pathways Program who takes courses in Mandarin. As an immigrant, access to quality caregiving training in her first language has helped Fei understand her parents' needs better and has improved her quality of care.
