In 2025, the Center for Art Law Annual Conference is about Nazi-Era Disputed Art: Research & Restitution Conference. This year, we will examine ongoing efforts to document, analyze, and facilitate the restitution of Nazi-era displaced and disputed art. The Conference will highlight the evolving role of research, archives and databases, digital resources, and interdisciplinary collaboration in understanding provenance, advancing legal claims, and ensuring accountability. This hybrid conference aims to foster dialogue, share critical insights, and chart the future of restitution efforts in an increasingly digital and interconnected world. The Conference will include keynote presentations, followed by three panels and closing remarks. An exhibitor's space will honor the contributions of researchers and attorneys who have been at the forefront of the field. A networking reception will follow the program. Meet our Speakers: Dr Jacques Schuhmacher, Executive Director of Provenance Research at the Art Institute of Chicago will deliver remarks about his 2024 publication "Nazi-Era Provenance of Museum Collections: A research guide". He will explore the evolving methodologies, ethical considerations, and key players involved in tracing the histories of museum collections. From archival records to digital tools, the session will highlight the resources shaping restitution efforts and the responsibilities of museums in addressing gaps in provenance.
