关于我们
The mission of the Center for Violence Prevention (CVP) at CHOP is to reduce the exposure to and impact of violence among children, teens, and families. We conduct community-focused research and design innovative, evidence-based programs that are implemented, disseminated and sustained across clinical, school and neighborhood settings. Our work is trauma-informed and rooted in racial equity and social justice. Violence is a public health epidemic in our country. Tragically, today more than 40% of kids in the U.S. are exposed to some form of violence – in their home, their schools, or their neighborhoods. Our vision statement is to be a national leader and innovator in violence prevention programming and research, supporting communities in which children, teens and families can be safe and thrive.

What advice do domestic violence survivors want to share with healthcare providers? Survivors share that they want healthcare providers to show them kindness, care, and respect after making a domestic violence situation known. Hear first-hand accounts of what resonates with patients – and what doesn’t – following a domestic violence disclosure in a healthcare setting in this four part video series developed with Lutheran Settlement House: https://lnkd.in/eXjKACmP Children's Hospital of Philadelphia #TDVAM #TeenDatingViolence #Healthcare

America continues to face a youth mental health crisis leaving psychiatric facilities with limited inpatient beds and impacting the ability of families to access timely care. Led by CVP Practice-based Scholar Jeremy Esposito, MD, MSEd, researchers at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute studied a new Emergency Department program that reduced need for transfer to inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, educated families, and helped more patients return home safely. The report was recently published in AAP Global Health's Journal of Pediatrics. Read the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia news brief: https://lnkd.in/efjrTaSY

To ensure optimal safety for children in homes with guns, experts at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia initiated a program in CHOP’s Emergency Department (ED) and Primary Care Centers that allows healthcare providers to have nonjudgmental conversations with families about guns in the home and, if appropriate, offer educational resources and gun safety devices at no cost. This approach is research-driven; prior studies in both pediatric practices and community settings have shown that providing firearm safety counseling combined with a safe storage device improves safe storage practices within the home, as opposed to providing safety counseling alone. "February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, but why is it important to stay engaged and educated on these topics year-round? Teen dating violence and domestic violence are problems that have always existed. This issue can unexpectedly touch anyone at any moment. One out of four women, one out of seven men, and one out of three teens experience this in a lifetime. The odds of you or someone close to you experiencing some form of DV are high, and if we don't focus on it continuously, it doesn't move us any closer to solving the problem."
