关于我们
Since 1993, Young Women’s Freedom Center has provided support, mentorship, training, employment, and advocacy to young women and trans youth of all genders in California who have grown up in poverty, experienced the juvenile legal and foster care systems, have had to survive living and working on the streets, and who have experienced significant violence in their lives. Our Mission is to build the power and leadership of directly impacted young people and inspire them to create positive change in their lives and communities. We meet young people where they’re at: on the streets, in jails and detention centers, and in the neighborhoods and communities where we live. Together, we build our personal and collective power, heal from trauma, advocate on behalf of ourselves and each other, and gain access to education and work to transform the conditions, systems, and policies that lead to intergenerational cycles of violence, incarceration, and poverty. Our Vision is a world in which all young women and trans youth of all genders have the support they need to recognize and end all forms of oppression, to heal, and to live self-determined lives.

We are transforming our futures and moving toward liberation by building our collective power. For 30 years, we've forged a model of freedom led by young women, girls, and trans people of all genders who have been the most impacted by systems of exploitation, criminalization, and incarceration. This movement is based on the expertise that can only come from lived experience. Join us every Thursday for the next seven weeks as we share a series of short videos about our journey! Subscribe to our YouTube Channel to never miss a moment! https://lnkd.in/ghshBZ4m

#Prop36 IS NOT the solution to reducing recidivism in California! #Prop36 pretends to deter crime by using harsher punishment as a deterrent, but research indicates that tough-on-crime approaches do not work. Moreover, #Prop36 fails to include programs to help formerly incarcerated individuals reintegrate into society, find employment, or access mental health and substance abuse treatment; it keeps a cycle of incarceration going. We will keep pushing for policies that center self-determination, access to resources, and meaningful rehabilitation.

History is being made right now.???? This election was a turning point, with the first queer, Black, trans, and women leaders stepping into power. ?This shows that our voices, our identities, and our struggles matter—and that we CAN make change happen. Representation shapes our communities and systems for every generation that follows. WE CAN push for our boundaries to be respected, WE CAN break down systems, and build a future where everyone has a seat at the table. ??????????? #RepresentationMatters #HistoryInTheMaking #NewLeadership #WeAreTheChange #ForTheFuture

The election might be over, but the work continues! This election season gave us MORE energy, and opportunity to vocalize our needs! The fight for justice, freedom, and equity doesn’t end when the polls close. We have the power to push for the change we need in our communities EVERY day. Let’s continue to organize, demand resources and programs that uplift our communities, and keep building the world we deserve. The real work starts NOW. Let’s push our agenda forward and make sure our voices continue to shape the future.
