In collaboration with expert faculty, the UC San Diego Center for the Future of Surgery (CFS) hosted a hands-on course for medical and PA students as an Introduction to Laparoscopy. ?? Students trained with Laparoscopic Box Trainers to master minimally invasive techniques commonly used in abdominal surgery. This training provided students with their first hands-on experience, offering an early glimpse into the tools and techniques they may use in their future careers. Utilizing laparoscopic approaches in surgery enhances patient safety and promote faster recovery times. ?? Empowering Physicians, Advancing Patient Care ?? This past weekend, Cordis hosted an incredible Carotid Artery Stenting training at the UC San Diego Center for the Future of Surgery. Bringing together leading physicians, second-year interventional fellows, and healthcare professionals, this program fostered peer-to-peer education, hands-on training, and expert discussions on atherosclerosis treatment and revascularization. Dr. Mahmoud Malas, led engaging sessions, emphasizing the power of learning through challenging cases. As Dr. Malas eloquently stated: ?? “The highest learning for us is when we have difficult cases. This past week, the Center for the Future of Surgery hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony alongside UCSD Faculty, Staff, and the Stryker Endoscopy Team to celebrate the installation of the new Stryker 1788 Towers. At CFS, industry partnerships are the cornerstone of what makes the center truly exceptional. Through these collaborations, CFS is able to maintain a space where education meets innovation, empowering the next generation of surgeons with the tools they need to succeed in an ever-evolving field. A special thank you to our Surgical Director, Dr. Santiago Horgan, and the Stryker Team for making this vision come to life. Today we wrapped up our Signature Course at the UC San Diego Center for the Future of Surgery with Drs. Lucas Elijovich, Parita Bhuva, and Jeffrey Pannell as they provided fundamental knowledge on the use of the TRUFILL? n-BCA System! UC San Diego Health has conducted a trial to test the use of spatial computing applications on an Apple Vision Pro in the operating room. According to the researchers, the minimally invasive surgeons at?UC San Diego Health?are the first in the US to evaluate the potential use of spatial computing apps on Apple Vision Pro in surgery. The feasibility study was conducted after two months of testing in the?UC San Diego Center for the Future of Surgery?at the?University of California San Diego School of Medicine. “This study is investigating whether spatial computing technology can enhance the surgical experience. Using an app that can stream a video feed from other devices, Apple Vision Pro can display the patient’s medical imaging, vital signs and the surgical camera view in real-time to guide decision making while the surgeon operates in a more ergonomic position" said Santiago Horgan, MD, chief of minimally invasive surgery at UC San Diego Health and director of the Center for the Future of Surgery.
