Fire service professionals from the Department of Defense (DoD) attended a 3-day Quality Improvement for the Fire and Emergency Service Workshop facilitated by CPSE at Marine Corp Air Station Beaufort, SC. The 14 attendees, representing the Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force, discussed community risk assessments, response data, strategic planning, and self-assessment. DoD has approximately 74 fire and emergency service agencies that are accredited with many more working through the process.

CPSE is the not-for-profit organization that accredits fire/rescue departments (Commission on Fire Accreditation International), provides professional designations for fire/rescue officers (Commission on Professional Credentialing) and provides technical and facilitation services for fire departments to help them develop strategic plans and analyze local community risks and hazards (Technical Advisor Program). Today, there are over 200 Accredited Agencies, representing both municipal fire departments and Department of Defense fire agencies and almost 2,100 fire officers who have achieved professional designations as Chief Fire Officer, Chief Training Officer, Chief EMS Officer, Fire Marshal and Fire Officer.

New Deputy U.S. Fire Administrator announced! During the U.S. Fire Administrator’s keynote at the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC)’s Volunteer and Combination Officer Symposium in Clearwater Beach, FL, Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell announced Chief Donna Black will join the USFA as the Deputy U.S. Fire Administrator on December 15, 2024. Chief Black has served in the fire service for over 27 years, earning her way through the ranks (as both a paid and volunteer firefighter), culminating?in 2006 when she was selected as the Fire Chief for the Town of Duck, North Carolina. She is a past President of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and champion of #FireServiceOneVoice collaboration for the National Fire Strategy.?
