The Center for Planning Excellence (CPEX) is a non-profit organization with a mission to bring people, culture, and planning together to make great communities happen in Louisiana. CPEX's muti-disciplinary team of urban and community planners, landscape architects, environmental scientists, policy researchers and communications specialists work towards 4 areas of impact: great neighborhoods and quality places; transportation choices; resilient communities; and civic education and engagement. We provide best-practice planning models, innovative policy ideas, and technical assistance to communities that wish to create and enact master plans dealing with transportation and infrastructure needs, equitable housing opportunities, environmental issues, and quality design for the built environment. CPEX brings community members and leaders together and provides guidance as they work toward a shared vision for future growth and development. As a non-profit planning organization, CPEX sees overall community improvement as the bottom line of every project. Our team leverages the unique challenges and opportunities uncovered through community planning to develop resource publications and create educational opportunities to guide stakeholders facing similar scenarios throughout the state. We know that nothing in a community takes place in a vacuum, so our team offers wholistic, systems-based solutions to connect the dots between smart planning, sound policy, strong partnerships, and access to funding -- the building blocks for successful implementation. President & CEO, Center for Planning Excellence: Connecting people to a healthy environment across the Louisiana Gulf Coast for 20 years
Last week, I had the privilege of joining an official US delegation study tour in Berlin and Hamburg where we explored Europe’s cutting-edge offshore wind industry. This effort was coordinated alongside a parallel CPEX delegation study tour. In Berlin, we met with federal agencies and industry experts who spearheaded over 20 years of innovation and advancement in this industry. This visit highlighted how Louisiana can grow its workforce, create jobs, and strengthen our position in the global energy supply chain. By learning from global leaders, we are preparing our state to be a key player in the future of renewable energy. Through this partnership, we are working toward translating Germany’s experience into practical, community-focused solutions for Louisiana’s renewable energy economy. On the anniversary week of Hurricane Katrina, we honor the resilience of Louisiana’s communities and remember CPEX's recovery planning effort, Louisiana Speaks. Launched in 2006, this 18-month initiative engaged over 27,000 citizens across 35 coastal parishes in rebuilding efforts. By incorporating public input, regional planning, and expert guidance, Louisiana Speaks created tools like the Louisiana Land Use Toolkit and Best Practices Manual for Development in Coastal Louisiana—resources that continue to shape growth and preservation throughout the state.
