??? We’re so excited to announce our new website! newdata.org ??? Thoughtfully redesigned to meet the moment, our updated website puts our mission to support a thriving democracy front and center, inviting current and prospective partners to engage with our tools to support voting rights. Our Executive Director, Jacqueline Edwards, shares her vision for the new website: “As the November election approaches, it is imperative that our digital presence reflect the potential of the tools we’re co-designing with voting rights organizations. It was also an incredible opportunity to feature our newest product, the Voting Access Monitor (VAM). We’re focused on strengthening digital infrastructure for our democracy and can't wait for our partners and supporters to rediscover our work online!” #democracy #vote2024
关于我们
Center for New Data supports a thriving democracy by bringing advanced data science to non-partisan civic organizations that support voting rights. We are a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing data insights that protect democracy. Our team of technologists, researchers, and social impact leaders are committed to building a stronger democracy for all. In response to the void in technology catering to the needs of civic organizations, we develop new data and artificial intelligence products for those working on the frontlines of our democracy. Our products help voting rights advocates leverage the data they need to address problems like long lines at the ballot box and disparities in voting access.

?? New analysis from ABC, using data from Center for New Data's Voting Access Monitor, demonstrates that 1 in 5 election day polling locations has closed in the past ten years. ?? We're one week out from the election and highlighting places like Warren County, Georgia where "five out of six polling places shuttered shortly after the Supreme Court reduced federal oversight of elections. The county, which is majority Black and low income, was left with a single voting location to cover nearly 300 square miles." ?? Equitable access to polling locations is essential to our democracy. Volunteers are key to running our elections and their role needs to be respected. Experts continue to prove that voter fraud is rare. These actions in Texas are concerning and threaten the health of our democracy, we cannot target the people that make our elections work. https://lnkd.in/dyBt49Xe #votingrights #vote2024

Tiffany Hsu shares the essential stories of our local election officials being targeted with disinformation in the The New York Times. At a time when we need our elections officials to be focused on preparing for the election and protecting our democracy, they are being bombarded. "When she signed on to be director of elections in Cobb County, Ga., last year, she knew she’d be registering voters and recruiting poll workers, maybe fixing up voting machines. She didn’t expect the unending flood of disinformation — or at least, she wasn’t prepared for how much it would overtake her job. She has had election deniers shout at her at public meetings, fielded weekend calls from politicians panicked about a newly circulating falsehood, and even reviewed conspiracy theories circulating on Nextdoor forums that might worsen skepticism among distrustful constituents already doubtful that the democratic system is reliable and secure." https://lnkd.in/d6--hBK5 #vote2024

It's National Poll Worker Recruitment Day! One of my favorite parts of describing our work at Center for New Data is how many people respond by telling me they are a poll worker in their local community! It's inspiring to hear about neighbors that get out there to support democracy. I've spent this week in rural Nova Scotia, on an island I've visited every summer for over 30 years, and look at what I saw on the ferry - they are looking for poll workers! Big Tancook Island is a community like no other and I love knowing how they are showing up to strengthen democracy. If your local area needs poll workers, get yourself signed up to help ensure everyone can cast their vote. #vote2024 #techforgood #election

When we learned about the issues that disabled voters in the US have in accessing polling locations, we couldn't thinking about the layers of inequity we see at the polls. Take a look at this essential article highlighting the work New Disabled South is leading to eliminate these barriers. #vote2024
More than 11% of disabled voters in the United States reported encountering difficulties when voting in the last general election. Barriers include inaccessible polling locations and restrictive voting laws limiting mail-in voting or banning ballot drop boxes. ?? New Disabled South, a disability-rights and disability-justice nonprofit organization founded in 2022, is working to eliminate these barriers: https://lnkd.in/eskqr3GZ Their CEO, Dom Kelly, an experienced political and disability activist, observed that it’s not enough for some organizations to work on disability-rights issues if disabled people aren’t given a seat at the table: “If you don’t have that lived experience, you’re only looking at the issues from the outside.” Marianne Dhenin reports on how the organization is combating efforts to disenfranchise disabled voters ahead of the 2024 general election.??

?? Our friends Fast Forward have done the deep work needed to advise us all on the opportunities for AI and social good. Their framework and Kevin Barenblat and Nicole Dunn's leadership in the field has informed our work on AI and we're so glad to see it published for others to learn from! Check them out in Stanford Social Innovation Review this week. #AI #techforgood
For the last year, we've been interviewing, researching, and writing on the many ways #AI will impact the social sector. The first in a series of articles on our findings launches today. Please enjoy this landscape of AI-powered tech nonprofits. A special thank you to the articles co-authors Fast Forward's Kevin Barenblat and Google.org's Brigitte Hoyer Gosselink.
