Shout out to State Representative Mindy Domb for championing the Physician Pathway Act, which Office of Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey just signed into law. The new law will make it easier for internationally trained physicians to re-credential in the U.S. This has been a priority of the Massachusetts Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA). Removing barriers to re-credentialing healthcare workers has long been a priority of Center for New Americans and our students, and they have shared this with State Representative Mindy Domb when she visited classes and when we visited the State House. She listened!

At Center for New Americans (CNA), we cherish our work welcoming and serving newcomers. We appreciate supporters of 30 Poems In November! whose messages, like this one, remind us of our community's compassion: "Poetry is the prayer of the soul. There has never been a better time for this work - both the poetry and CNA." https://lnkd.in/eHEcYSRd

Welcome, November and welcome writers! Let the Write-a-thon begin. More than 75 writers are on this team and more than $15,000 has already been raised! Check out an excerpt from Becky Jones' beautiful page: "Welcome, friends. Together we can be a different voice, welcoming and supporting those who are working to find their places here. I do love this communal opportunity to support Center for New Americans and the important work that they do. Especially because language acquisition is part of what CNA offers, it feels fitting to use the language of poetry to help raise funds and awareness for CNA." Write on! https://cnam.org/writers/

30 Poems in November update: we're up to 50 participating poets! Our goal is 80, so please keep spreading the word! Sign up to write or pledge support to a participating poet: https://lnkd.in/eHEcYSRd https://cnam.org/writers/ From participating poet Marianne Gambaro: "America is a nation of immigrants. Even those who boast about their Mayflower ancestry trace their heritage to immigrants. And all those immigrants had one thing in common: the desire to provide a better life for themselves and their families. In my own story, my father was born in the United States to parents who had emigrated from Italy. My mother and her family came from The Netherlands... Today's immigrants are no different. They have a vision that America can provide better lives for their families. The Center for New Americans works every day to help new immigrants realize that vision. I hope you will join me in supporting this outstanding organization in their essential work."

From Christine Mirabal, returning 30 Poems in November poet: "Please support this wonderful organization which in turn supports our new neighbors from all over the world! Aren't we so lucky to have such diversity?... Can you imagine how hard it is to start all over in a different land with a different language and unfamiliar foods and customs?" From Patricia, our Gill Poet: "I know firsthand the donations are going to a remarkable organization, one that meets immigrants where they are - excited, confused, hopeful, anxious, frightened, brave - and helps them day-by-day to reach their goals: new language skills, an education, a job, the means to support their family, and the opportunity to give back to the country that welcomed them in a time of need. Thank you again for all the good you are doing." To sign up to write and raise: https://lnkd.in/ezFGaMnF To support Patricia and other writers: https://cnam.org/writers

From Kessie, herself an immigrant: "Each year, immigrants, refugees, humans from all over the world come to the United States, as they have since before the inception of this country, with great hope, with great courage, with huge amounts of energy to settle, create families, businesses, become citizens, learn English, find jobs, and keep the United States the vibrant, growing, welcoming country it is. Think what we can do if we give generously to help CNA make this happen." Our writers share powerful stories! From Julie Cavacco: As a librarian I understand the strength of a strong community. I’ve been fortunate to know a number of English Language Learners and have seen the extensive support and benefits that Center of New Americans has provided for them. Show your support for our work with immigrants. Sign up to write and raise, or support one of our writers. Words matter! Check out our 30 Poems Writers Page: https://cnam.org/writers
