Workforce development is an important pillar of our Bezos Center for Sustainable Protein at North Carolina State University. Our WFD team (Michelle Schroeder-Moreno, Sylvia Nassar, Jennifer Pancorbo, Russ Read, Bryan Sales, Leonard Williams et al.) is developing a portfolio of education and training programs to benefit various stakeholders across the ag, food, and biomanufacturing ecosystems. We're happy to announce one such initiative for community college and high school instructors - the BIOSCIENCES SUMMER INDUSTRY FELLOWS PROGRAM. In partnership with the National Center for the Biotechnology Workforce at Forsyth Technical Community College, we will select and fully fund two Fellows to do a mentored internship in the sustainable protein industry in summer 2025. This experience can enhance the faculty's expertise and equip them with practical, up-to-date knowledge to enrich their teaching. By directly experiencing industry practices, these faculty can better prepare students for real-world applications. This program embodies the core idea of "teaching the teacher" to improve educational outcomes. Please share this opportunity with your network and encourage interested US-based community college/high school instructors to reach out to Russ Read ([email protected]) about the application process! One of our very exciting and productive programs is the NCBW(BETA) Biosciences Industry Fellows Program for community college or high school instructors where you spend 6-8 weeks in industry or an institute working, learning more about an aspect of Bioscience. Eg. Regenerative medicine or Sustainable alternative proteins. Thanks to InnovATEBIO( NSF ATE), PTRME (NSF Engine) and The Bezos Center for Sustainable Protein at NC State, we have limited opportunities for summer 2025. ?If you are an instructor and based in the US with the time to spend with us next summer, please contact me at: [email protected] for more detail.?
