As elder abuse continues to rise, the federal government pulled the RFP for the abuse in later life grant (which we received). https://lnkd.in/g2ZbPiM2

Adequately funded guardianship services could save Medicaid 80 Million per year according to this report from Project Guardianship, but NYS does not appropriately fund nonprofits that take on this role. New York State Assembly Majority please take the lead from the New York State Senate Democratic Conference and add funding for these crucial, and cost-effective services in the final budget. https://lnkd.in/eZkS3zkG

In today's edition of the Buffalo News, CELJ Managing Attorney Lindsay Heckler says, “They’re listening to some pretty horrific stories and other concerns, and the volunteers and staff ombudsmen go out of their way to advocate for and really push forward positive changes." The new reports make one thing very clear: Unless something changes, large numbers of the country’s nonprofits will be financially crippled or forced to shut down. Given our society’s reliance on many of these organizations to hold together what’s left of America’s social safety net, the results would be disastrous for millions of Americans in need.

Our CEO , Karen Nicolson (she/her) told Newsday Media Group "All too often, by the time we discover elder financial exploitation, it is too late to do much about it. Once the funds are removed from the victim’s bank account, that money is gone, either sent to a foreign country, or immediately spent by the perpetrator.” https://lnkd.in/grjMcx-3

While fraud and waste due exist, an 880 billion dollar cut to Medicaid is not about finding the cheaters. In fact, every state already has a Medicaid Fraud unit to stop fraud These cuts will hurt seniors, children and persons who are disabled. Nearly 7 million in NY alone. https://lnkd.in/gpkT64ZG
