We teach people how to get along. Building bridges of communication and understanding in our community.
关于我们
MISSION The Center for Conflict Resolution (CCR) helps people solve conflict by providing: a safe, structured and positive environment where individuals can choose understanding over escalating conflict, processes that empower people to resolve, manage and transform conflict. METHOD Prevent. CCR works with children and youth to teach skills that prevent normal conflict from becoming verbally or physically violent. Collaboration becomes the new normal. Educate. Interactive and experiential training provides a forum for introspection, inquiry into long-held ideas and connection with others who are grappling with similar issues. Restore. The human brain is wired to connect. When those connections are disrupted by unresolved conflict, a neutral, all-partial third party can help. All processes used at CCR are based on the principles of restorative justice, which state that people are capable of solving problems in their lives when they are supported by respectful processes that encourage responsibility and collaboration. MOTIVE CCR envisions a city where effective, respectful communications bring about peaceful relationships and create an environment where citizens are safe and able to lead satisfying and productive lives, a city -where all schools include conflict resolution training for children, youth and staff as a part of the required curriculum, -where every Kansas City municipality boasts neighborhood accountability boards, where trained and committed members create communities of support for victims and offenders, -where every family has access to conflict resolution processes and education to enhance peaceful co-existence, -where an area-wide program supports all ex-offenders through conflict resolution training and referrals to services, -where retaliation is NOT the first response to violence, -a city that serves as a model throughout our nation in violence prevention and conflict resolution.

We're grateful for caring community members who invested in a day-long training to become Neighborhood Accountability Board (NAB) volunteers. They're now prepared to take part in restorative justice processes in communities around Kansas City. Volunteers are key to the success of NABs, which we've been facilitating for over a decade. What is a Neighborhood Accountability Board, or NAB for short? It's a restorative process that involves a community member who has done harm (the offender), the person(s) the harm was done to, trained members of the community (NAB Board Members) where the harm took place and CCR staff facilitators. During this process, the person who has done the harm has a chance to tell their story to members of the community, and members of the community have the opportunity to speak about how this harm affected them or their community. In all processes, the person who was directly harmed (the victim) has the opportunity to share their story, either in person or through a prepared statement, and influence what the agreement is and how the person who has harmed them can make things as right as possible. After stories are shared, the community members and the person who has done harm collectively come up with a plan with the person who did the harm to repair the harm and make things as right as possible. Before leaving, the Board members and the person who did the harm all sign this agreement. CCR staff follows up with those who have done harm to make sure their agreement has been completed at the agreed upon time. Cases are dismissed if the agreement is followed and completed in the allotted amount of time. NABs cost significantly less than court hearings/proceedings and empower all affected by a harm to be involved in the outcome. NABs are just one version of restorative processes that exist all over the world. The inspiration for the NAB program comes from Indigenous practices of holding harm as a community, instead of individually. Want to be notified when registration opens for our fall training dates? Does your workplace pay for professional development? Are you looking for training that you can actually use on the job, at home, or at school? Limited spots remain for our in-person July sessions, provided by trained and experienced facilitators: Interpersonal Conflict Resolution (ICR) training will give you foundational skills to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, family, or friends. Every positive or negative interaction we have with people in our lives depends on our ability to listen, share our perspectives, and collaborate on solutions. This class is a pre-requisite for Mediation training, and will be held July 22nd - 23rd. Transformative Mediation training takes ICR to the next level, and includes theories of mediation styles plus the chance to learn and practice mediation skills. Training will be held July 24th - 26th. These incredibly valuable sessions are only offered 3x year, so don't miss out! Registration deadline is Tuesday, July 16th, all info at https://lnkd.in/ggyJVhUb

We're grateful to our community partner, AdHoc Group Against Crime for presenting Disrupting Generational Trauma, a History of Trauma and the Road to Healing. The knowledge and awareness our staff gained will definitely help each of us in our restorative justice work with community members, youth in schools, and justice-involved individuals. Big thank you to Dr. Joy DeGruy for bringing her expertise and inspiration to KC!

We're sharing a message from our incredibly dedicated Executive Director, Annette Lantz-Simmons today regarding a leadership transition here at CCR: "At the end of June 2024, I will step down as Executive Director of the Center for Conflict Resolution and continue to serve the community, working to increase the impact of the CCR Conflict Transformation and Restorative Justice Training Institute. I'm delighted to announce the incoming Executive Director,?Raquel McCommon, M.A. Ed. who has been with CCR since mid-2023 and quickly became an integral part of the team. She brings experience in non-profit leadership, as well as expertise in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Raquel has a wonderful ability to build and nurture relationships internally and with community and government partners. As we increase our impact in the community - providing skills and processes to transform conflict peacefully and productively - and with the full support of the CCR Board of Directors, I want to welcome Raquel to this new adventure! I have found enjoyment, fulfillment, and a strong purpose throughout the 12 years that I have served as Executive Director. My tenure overlapped?with?CCR Founder?Diane Kyser?who?established?a solid foundation on which to grow our organizational impact.?I have loved working with all of our community partners and with the wonderful and talented staff and board of this organization. Thank you for your support, generosity, and encouragement over the years. Please continue to walk alongside us - there is so much more we can achieve together!"
