This was the mindset behind our $31.8 million investment in Scenic Hill Solar’s groundbreaking solar project benefitting the entire University of Arkansas System. As this project comes to life, it will generate a projected $120 million in direct economic development across the state of Arkansas — employing hundreds of local electricians, civil contractors, and construction workers. The University of Arkansas is also preparing to meet the growing demand by launching educational and workforce development initiatives in renewable energy construction. Last fall Self-Help along with our partner LA Más, successfully acquired a five-unit complex in Northeast LA - taking a huge step forward in preserving affordable housing and ensuring long-time residents can stay in their homes. This $1.6 million project was made possible thanks to creative financing from Self-Help and generous grants from LA4LA and Local Initiative Support Corporation Los Angeles (LISC LA). The purchase will help protect current residents from displacement, keep rents affordable, and involve the community in managing the property.
