Election day was busy for this UVM student reporter! Our heartfelt thanks to the students across the nation who worked long hours to help cover the election. You're fueling the future of journalism in America.
Last Tuesday, I had the opportunity to report on the election alongside CCTV Center for Media & Democracy as part of my internship with the Center for Community News. We visited several polling stations throughout Burlington, VT, where we engaged with voters. Additionally, I had the chance to meet Senator Bernie Sanders at his polling location, where I joined fellow reporters to observe his vote and hear his remarks. Later that evening, I accompanied CCTV Center for Media & Democracy to cover the Democratic Election Night Watch Party in South Burlington, VT. During the event, we interviewed several local candidates and attended speeches from prominent figures around Vermont, including Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Peter Welch. All footage from Election Day can be found at https://lnkd.in/d2v-PnqC. It was an enriching and inspiring experience, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who made this opportunity possible.

"It’s too early to know precisely what a Trump presidency will mean for American democracy but, amid a deluge of election hot takes and post-mortems, two things are irrefutably true: ?? Trustworthy journalism is about to become more important, and… ?? It is about to become more difficult." Read on to learn how CCN is going to continue improving access to high-quality, local news by supporting student reporting initiatives. ????
