"I am so thankful for Emmaline! I’ve texted them at 11pm when facing challenges with code, and they were just so accommodating even then. They're such an amazing project manager." -GSPIA undergraduate fellow on Emmaline Rial's stewardship. ?? Celebrating Emmaline Rial's Outstanding Contributions to CAASI! ?? As Emmaline transitions to new adventures, we at CAASI - Center for Analytical Approaches to Social Innovation take immense pride in celebrating their remarkable three-year journey with us. Emmaline has been one of our longest-serving interns, dedicating their skills and passion to #socialjustice initiatives including #affordablehousing and the transformative development of ACPP’s Grief 2 Action platform. This online, searchable database of police union contracts across #Allegheny County municipalities, enables residents to uncover key contractual clauses related to resident complaint processes and legal proceedings. Emmaline's latest achievement involved a groundbreaking collaboration with the Police Data Accessibility Project, Inc. (PDAP) and University of Pittsburgh Library System (ULS) data science faculty. Together, they guided the inaugural class of University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) Undergraduate #SocialImpact Fellows through learning #Python and initiating the #ACPP Civic Helpdesk. Over a semester, these fellows applied their new skills to analyze PDAP's database, addressing community-submitted questions on police accountability, including the rates of marijuana arrest vs. citation by neighborhood and police department accreditation statuses and protocols. Emmaline’s dedication and leadership have not only propelled our projects forward but also inspired a new generation of #socialinnovation. As we bid farewell, we look forward with excitement to the lasting impact of their work and the new paths they will forge.
