Collaborative and creative research to advance evidence-based practices in corrections
关于我们
The Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence (ACE!) is a research center in the Schar School of Public Policy at George Mason University in Arlington, VA. We conduct collaborative and creative research to assist policymakers and correctional practitioners with using evidence-based practices and treatments. We work with our partners in crafting new policies focused on preventing criminal behavior instead of simply responding to it. ACE! is led by Director Faye Taxman, Ph.D., and Deputy Director Danielle Rudes, Ph.D. ACE! was founded in 2010 as a research center to bridge disciplines and bring together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to grapple with issues that affect criminal justice and health systems. As part of the Schar School of Public Policy at George Mason University, ACE!’s goal is not only to conduct high quality research but to develop the next generation of researchers.

Check out Faye Taxman's new publication in Criminology & Public Policy! In 2023, Dr. Taxman received the August Volmer Award for her contributions to implementation science and criminology. She states: "Implementation deserves to be its own area of inquiry where rigorous scientific methods are available to answer key questions about the nature of the policy, practice, and/or treatments (referred to as innovations in this article) in the real world. Implementation allows us to delve into the culture and environment of justice (or health, education, service, etc.) agencies and the attendant factors that affect how an innovation operates." https://lnkd.in/eCrYrUB5

The Probation and Reentry Coach Application (PARCA) successfully completed NIH Phase I, led by Faye Taxman, and is now transitioning into Phase II. This tool supports people navigating probation and parole, with the goal of reducing drug use, overdose, rearrests, and reincarceration. https://lnkd.in/eD2pads9

Become part of JCOIN and advance your research skills! https://lnkd.in/ecpuxYxM
Are you interested in the criminal legal/public health intersect? Maybe you’re an early-career or established researcher who’s been looking for an opportunity to work in the criminal legal space? Or, perhaps you're a clinician who wants to collaborate on research in criminal legal settings? If your answer to any of these questions is YES, please consider applying for one of the 2024-25 Learning Experiences to Advance Practice (LEAP) programs through the Justice Community Overdose Innovation Network (JCOIN). ? The LEAP program offers two tracks: an Investigator track and a Scholar track (both one year). ? ●?????The Investigator track is designed for individuals interested in a career as an independent investigator and will focus on a project to be designed and carried out over the next year. Every investigator works with a seasoned mentor to learn, grow, and advance their knowledge and scholarship. This track will emphasize research proposal writing, grant management, mentorship and advanced research skills needed to be successful in criminal legal settings. Modest funding is available to support travel to one or two conferences/meetings each year.? ? ●?????The Scholar track will support clinicians, criminologists, and analysts interested in collaborating on research in criminal legal and health settings, focusing on research collaboration, formulating research questions, understanding the elements of research design, ethical issues concerning research in criminal legal and health settings, and collaborator roles to ground and translate the conduct of research. Scholars receive continued guidance and mentorship throughout the one-year program. Modest funding is available to support travel to one or two conferences/meetings each year.? ? The deadline to apply is November 6, 2024. The program will commence in December, 2024 with orientation and continue throughout 2025 with monthly meetings, mentoring sessions, project work, and opportunities for networking. Check out the LEAP webpage and click on the Scholar or Investigator track to complete an application. https://lnkd.in/gy9VpsZM ?
