Nathalie brings a unique understanding of the UN Climate Change process - at a time when policy and markets are at a cross-roads. Her experience includes senior technical and administrative roles at the Secretariat of the Coalition for Rainforest Nations, where she provided legal assistance to over 50 countries in carbon market negotiations and supported GHG inventory training for the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector. Nathalie also served as Director of Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation at the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources from 2020 to 2023. “Supporting others, simplifying complex systems, and driving action brings me the most fulfillment” Nathalie says. “I’ve come to understand that owning your path—no matter how unconventional it may seem—is a vital part of the #transformation we work toward every day in the #climate movement.? “Lean into what lights you up, embrace the unexpected, and NEVER forget why you started. The journey is as much about personal growth as it is about the outcomes we strive to achieve." "Take this moment to breathe, recharge, and prepare—because #COP30 Amazonia is just around the corner” ? Nathalie recently transitioned to the private sector to drive opportunities and manage risks in commodity trading, and shaping solutions for a greener present and future as StoneX Group Inc., Inc.'s Vice President of Carbon Markets. In her new role she is responsible for key partnerships with corporations and governments and aligning with international developments to enhance regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. Many Climate Collective community members have participated in these consultations in some shape or form. Great to see this revised net-zero standard. Let's be honest - if we get this right we can meaningfully bend the curve.. so far however the net-zero space has been plagued by complexity, flip-flopping and media-fall outs. Take a look at this revised version and let us know your thoughts?
CEO @ Climate Collective | Climate Tech Leader | fm. Meta, World Bank Group, Global Environment Facility | Advisor, Board member
?? Its finally here. The Science Based Targets initiative's REVISED Corporate Net-Zero Standard 2.0. ?? ?? This is complicated work and a lot of smart people have been weighing in to make this new standard accessible while also strengthening its integrity. ?? But let’s be honest. It’s been a ride for SBTI in recent months with criticism and CEO change. To me, this is a step in the right direction. ? The goals of the revision are [my voice over in brackets]: ?? Tackling barriers to scope 3, or value chain action – the most commonly cited challenge by businesses ????♀? [scope 3 is complex at best, offering flexibility to allow companies to choose from a range of options that fit them, their business model, and their industry the best is needed to scale up action] ?? Maintaining focus on emissions reduction while exploring incentives to support scaling of climate finance and carbon removals ????♀? [we need to strike a balance between mitigations a company can control, and those they support via market mechanisms] ?? Making it easier for companies in emerging economies to set targets ????♀? [we won't move the needle if net-zero is only approachable/attainable for a small group of highly capitalized western Fortune50) ?? Incentivizing ambition and action through new model to validate and recognize progress against targets ????♀? [again, a very small number of companies have made net-zero pledges. in light of confusion and weakening incentives this instrument is loosing its potential unless we find a way to reignite ambition and action] ?? Here are the most significant changes, curtesy of Heather Clancy ( ?? article in comments): - SBTi proposes dropping the fixed percentages it previously applied for setting Scope 3 targets in favor of a system that would allow companies to focus instead on “relevant” categories — those account for at least 5 percent of their Scope 3 footprint. - Targets can also take different forms — ranging from absolute emissions reductions to proof of “net-zero-aligned” procurement activities. - SBTi is more open to the idea of “indirect mitigation” of activities that companies can’t directly control. That might mean, for example, buying sustainable aviation fuel certificates through a book-and-claim system to reduce air travel emissions. - The draft includes three options that would let companies get credit for “high-integrity” carbon removal activities taking place between now and their net-zero target year. ?? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments? Is this a major improvement Lyrica McTiernan Amanda Gardiner? Mostly a distraction Lisa Sachs? Will this breathe new life to carbon markets Alexia Kelly Nathan Truitt? Enough to get CDR off the ground Robert H?glund Sebastian Manhart? What corporates will this revision help the most Tim Christophersen Sarah Nelson?

Climate Collective community member MORFO is inviting to a hands-on workshop focused on ARR projects in Brazil (Afforestation, Reforestation, Restoration). They invite others interested in discussing two main hurdles: - Securing land - Bridging the finance gap See workshop invite in comments ?? New to the greatness of ARR? Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) projects focus on establishing new forests or restoring degraded land by planting trees and implementing soil conservation practices. ?? Afforestation:?planting trees on land that has not been previously forested; ?? Reforestation:?replanting trees in areas that have been deforested; ?? Revegetation:?restoring vegetation cover in areas where it has been lost. One of the champions of #ARR is Symbiosis Coalition - an advance market commitment to invest in the next generation of nature-based carbon removals projects by 2030, driving positive outcomes for people and planet. Members include Meta Microsoft McKinsey & Company Google and Salesforce. Ping Anna Lerner Nesbitt Jack Policar Adrien Pages Pascal Asselin
Developers of ARR projects face big challenges. My colleagues at MORFO, Paulo Quadri & Natalie Urban from Symbiosis Coalition, and developers from LATAM will join a 2-hour session to tackle two of the biggest hurdles: securing land and bridging the finance gap. Let’s talk, listen, and learn—so that ARR projects in Brazil get financed. Let’s see what we can achieve in just 2 hours. If you're a developer in LATAM and want to join, find the link below ?? ?? March 18 ?? Online via Microsoft Teams ? Limited to 40 participants (to ensure meaningful discussions for everyone).
