That's why we are co-sponsoring the Varsity Hackathon (V Hack) 2025, a student-led intervarsity hackathon by Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Computer Science Student Society. As part of the IoT & Engineering category, we’re challenging students to innovate potential solutions for smart cities and mental wellbeing — addressing urban challenges like road safety, traffic congestion, and waste management, while also promoting overall mental health and wellbeing. Local and international university students are encouraged to participate in this hackathon, which features engaging workshops, industry experts, and exciting prizes. We have joined forces with PayNet (Payments Network Malaysia) in a landmark partnership to enhance the security of mobile financial transactions across Malaysia. ???? By integrating CelcomDigi’s Open Gateway API with PayNet’s DuitNow platform, we’re making transactions safer and more seamless than ever. ? The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Datuk Idham Nawawi, Chief Executive Officer of CelcomDigi, and Farhan Ahmad, Group Chief Executive Officer of PayNet. The signing was officiated by YM Tengku Azmil Zahruddin Aziz, Chair of CelcomDigi, with a representative from Bank Negara Malaysia also in attendance. ? Here’s how this collaboration strengthens financial security: ? ? Blocking Scams & Fraud – Leveraging SIM-based authentication to securely verify transactions. This is especially crucial for DuitNow, which uses mobile numbers, MyKad, and business registration numbers as user IDs, reinforcing trust in digital payments. ? ? Faster Fraud Response – Connecting real-time scam intelligence with financial institutions and the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) via the National Fraud Portal. This allows CelcomDigi to swiftly flag, block, and blacklist scam-linked phone numbers—preventing fraudsters from misusing them to create new accounts. ? This partnership sets a new standard for telco-fintech security, ensuring that Malaysians can transact with confidence in the digital economy.
