#GovernanceForAll | “Unless frontline workers are trained and motivated, we cannot deliver anything. Whatever policy is made at the state or central government level, the ultimate person who delivers is these people only.” In Ep. 2 of Governance in Action: #ForAllWomen, we speak with Ms. Alka Tiwari, a 1988 IAS officer and the current Chief Secretary of Jharkhand, about the complexities of governance and public service delivery. From tackling malnutrition by integrating local foods into the ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) programme in the state to leveraging data for effective fertiliser procurement and distribution, essential for agricultural production across the country, she highlights the multi-pronged approach necessary for #effectivegovernance. She also reflects on the critical role of frontline workers, the value of intrinsic motivation and the importance of understanding community needs to drive real impact. Watch the full conversation to see #governanceinaction and stay tuned for more! (Governance in Action: For All Women is a special series featuring government officers who have seen firsthand the impact of effective governance on citizen lives, especially women.) How does #effectivegovernance lead to real impact for women and communities? This Women's Day, we bring to you the first episode of Governance in Action: #ForAllWomen, featuring a conversation with Ms. Leena Nandan, a 1987 batch IAS (retd.) officer. From being a part of the burgeoning women’s Self Help Group (SHG) movement in Uttar Pradesh in the 90s to spearheading grassroots health campaigns that broke significant barriers to information access, Ms. Nandan gives us a brief glimpse into her 3 decade long career in governance, shedding light on the tremendously complex task of public service delivery in India. Having worked closely with communities, she reflects on the importance of making interventions relatable and why a bottom-up approach—one that works with women, not just for them—is key to sustainable development. Kicking off our series, this episode brings to life this year’s #InternationalWomensDay theme—For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment. Join us as we delve into the complexity and impact of governance and stay tuned for more! Monitoring governance programmes is crucial, but are we measuring what truly matters? What does #governance on the ground tell us? Our latest ‘Reflections from the Field’ story, Unseen Connections: Governance at the Last Mile by Anushikha D. takes us to Bodoland in Assam, where High Frequency Monitoring (HFM) was set up to track the delivery of nutrition services. But a field visit to a village near Kokrajhar, revealed something deeper. Read to know more: https://lnkd.in/eYtHCzSq #CEGISinAction #FieldStories #Bodoland #BTR #Data #Policy

Sometimes, a market that could benefit people simply doesn’t exist. This can happen due to unclear demand, low purchasing power, high costs, and several other barriers.?The result? Supply and demand fail to connect, limiting access often to essential services like education, healthcare, digital connectivity, etc.—especially for marginalised and underserved communities. In such conditions, the government has to step in—not to create markets, but to build the infrastructure and systems needed to sustain them. Watch our latest #GoverNuance video to learn more about such #MissingMarkets and why certain government interventions are necessary for holistic socioeconomic development. #ExplainingGovernance #StateandMarkets
