At the University at Albany, we measure our impact in myriad ways – degrees conferred, discoveries made in our laboratories, connections created in classrooms, and friendships forged in residence halls. However, we are also an engine of economic development for our communities and of social and economic mobility for our students.
A new report from the Capital District Regional Planning Commission shows that UAlbany’s economic impact in the Capitol Region is $1.1 billion annually.?This total impact includes our university’s operations and research, student and visitor spending, and construction spending.
For every dollar we receive in taxpayer support, we generate about $16 in regional economic impact.

Our economic impact also includes the academic programs we offer that are directly tied to industries growing in the Capital Region, like our new video game design and development undergraduate and graduate programs that will launch in the fall, 2025.
