The New York State Departments of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Health (DOH) announced the availability of free technical assistance for municipalities to protect their public drinking water sources through the Drinking Water Source Protection Program (DWSP2). Community public water suppliers are encouraged to apply for free technical assistance to develop and implement a Drinking Water Source Protection Program. To apply, visit the DWSP2 webpage and complete an online application. The DWSP2 Application period is open from Thursday, January 23 – Friday, February 28 at 4pm. Up to 30 volunteer communities will work with technical assistance providers to develop and implement source water protection programs that proactively protect public drinking water sources. If your municipality is interested in the program, DWSP2 is hosting an information session on Tuesday, February 4 at 11:00 AM. Register for this informational session now. At the University at Albany, we measure our impact in myriad ways – degrees conferred, discoveries made in our laboratories, connections created in classrooms, and friendships forged in residence halls. However, we are also an engine of economic development for our communities and of social and economic mobility for our students. A new report from the Capital District Regional Planning Commission shows that UAlbany’s economic impact in the Capitol Region is $1.1 billion annually.?This total impact includes our university’s operations and research, student and visitor spending, and construction spending.
