Joining forces with the city of Pearland, Texas to support water and wastewater operations ????? ??Over time, the City of Pearland, Texas' Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (#SCADA) system naturally became outdated and less efficient as the city grew. Pearland needed to upgrade its system and trusted our experts to design a modern and streamlined solution that could support water and wastewater operations for the region's increasing needs. ??The team of automation experts used a progressive design build approach, phasing the work prioritizing functionality that met the budgetary parameters. They closely maintained client engagement by hosting workshops and technical meetings, allowing for site specific solutions to be developed and readily implemented. ??The new SCADA system was able to replace the old site-based architecture with a fully redundant and virtualized system hosted across two separate locations. These improvements reduce operating costs, enhance reliability, and ensure that the city of Pearland's water and wastewater services are future-ready. We’re accomplishing the mission of prioritizing energy resiliency together. ???? https://bit.ly/4jDc4o4 CDM Smith is proud to have supported the Fort Carson Army project, in which we helped procure equipment and construct an innovative flow battery demonstration plant, known as the Gridstar Flow, that points to the future of energy storage and sustainability. The Gridstar Flow system is one of the first and largest of its kind to be installed on a Department of Defense site and is responsible for powering 400 homes over the span of 10 hours. Without relying on rare minerals like lithium, this advancement will set a path forward for military energy resilience. "Diversification of our power distribution protects our community against power outages and any adversarial efforts," said Maj. Gen. It’s amazing how celebrating technology can be both fun and impactful! ???? Earlier this month, CDM Smith’s second annual Business Technology (BT) Day took place at our Bangalore, India office. The engaging event drew in more than 250 attendees, including visitors from the U.S. and Middle East, and was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to see informative presentations and demos by peers on numerous technology platforms, data science, project management and citizen development tools. Many attendees enthusiastically said it was an outstanding success, as they gained countless insights and felt united by a shared commitment to innovation and progress. See how our leader in tollway planning and policy Jonathon Hart, AICP, PMP discusses how renewable energy can be harnessed to enhance #sustainability. We've highlighted some key points made: ? Possibly the easiest step for tollways to take are to replace their fleet with electric vehicles. Gradual replacement allows for an ease in cutting emissions. Other options to keep in mind are offsetting emissions through LEED certified facilities powered with solar, or even having larger solar sites offsite. ?? Revenue stream opportunities do exist. When a toll facility generates excess power, they can sell that back to the grid. Whether you are using that electricity directly in operations or selling it back, you still create a certain amount of green energy-effectively no different than if you used it on site. ?? Advancements in environmentally-friendly construction methods like green concrete and recycled asphalt can enable tollways to balance the need for development while minimizing environmental impact.
