Colorado’s federal workers impacted by recent cuts are encouraged to attend one of two upcoming virtual town halls. The Unemployment Insurance Division will go over the claim filing process, explain what former federal workers need to know before filing a claim and go over the various reemployment resources available to all Colorado job seekers through the Statewide Workforce System. If you are a federal employee in Colorado who was recently laid off, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits. You should file your claim as soon as possible after your last day of work. An employer may not prohibit you from applying for benefits. However, the reason for your separation and other factors will determine your eligibility for benefits. Colorado unemployment benefit claims take approximately four to six weeks to process. If you accepted the Deferred Resignation package and continue to receive payment, you will need to report this income and may not be eligible for unemployment benefit payments during the weeks you receive payment from your employer.
