Our President and CEO Dr. Judy Monroe is in Washington, D.C., today participating in the release of the Pathway to a Healthier America: A Blueprint for Strengthening Public Health for the Next Administration and Congress report. The report states: Too many people are still suffering from preventable health problems, weather-related emergencies are occurring more frequently and with more intensity and population-level health disparities persist. The new report from Trust for America's Health outlines how the nation can come together to strengthen our public health infrastructure and its workforce. Strong partnerships that bring resources and expertise together is a key element of the Hunger, Nutrition and Health Action Collaborative. “We feel like you can do more together than separately. These problems are pretty big. They take a lot to overcome them.”?— Natalie Haynes, executive director of the Vitamix Foundation. The Vitamix Foundation is one of the many partners we're bringing together to help drive collaboration, foster innovation and amplify initiatives that support ending hunger across the United States. Read more about the work of our partners in our latest article.

Today, we celebrate former President Jimmy Carter's 100th birthday! President Carter has been a true champion of public health during his time at the White House and now through The Carter Center. In 2012, the CDC Foundation awarded President Carter our Hero Award for his visionary leadership focused on building international public-private partnerships to save lives, reduce suffering and provide hope for millions of the world’s poorest people, as well as for his commitment to achieving a more peaceful and healthier world for us all. Happy birthday, President Carter! Thank you for your work to make the world better for everyone.

On October 1, we commemorate the International Day Of Older Persons and the importance of strengthening care and support systems for older people around the world so they can enjoy healthy lives at any age. In metro Detroit, #LocalChangemaker MiGen provides services and connection to older LGBTQ+ people, and when they wanted to increase vaccine confidence in their community, they created a fun summer ad campaign. With cheeky slogans and a focus on how vaccination can bring people together, they gave people a reason to smile and take care of their health.

The world of global public health and healthcare lost a champion today with the death of NBA legend and humanitarian Dikembe Mutombo. Dikembe was a long-standing member of the CDC Foundation board of directors and dedicated advocate for the health and wellbeing of others. In 1997, he founded the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, which focused on improving healthcare in his home country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and he served as the NBA’s first Global Ambassador. One of his proudest accomplishments is the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital, named after his mother. We are incredibly grateful for his service to the CDC Foundation. His impact on the world will be felt for years to come. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans across the globe.
