In a new interview, Josie Shapiro, an 18-year-old college freshman, recalls how easy it was to get addicted to vaping – and how difficult it is to quit. "I wish I'd never tried that blueberry ice vape," she said. A recent report finds that e-cigarettes in flavors that appeal to youth, like fruit, candy, mint and menthol made up more than 80% of e-cigarettes sales in 2023. A new report finds that e-cigarettes in flavors that appeal to youth, like fruit, candy, mint and menthol made up more than 80% of e-cigarettes sales in 2023. Sales of disposable e-cigarettes, commonly used by youth, have increased and contain more nicotine than ever before. But data also shows that statewide policies restricting flavored e-cigarettes have effectively reduced sales in Massachusetts, California and New York. Hear more directly from youth impacted by these products with our story and video below: https://cdcf.link/4fWlxUD

“People aren’t knowledgeable about the resources available and that they have the power to get things shaking and moving, you’ve got to bring people together in order to get something started.” - Ethel Johnson, program manager at West Central Alabama Community Health Improvement League (WCACHIL). In the rural communities of west central Alabama, WCACHIL, with support from the CDC Foundation, supported increased water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) access to help alleviate access issues to not only clean water but complications that arise from poor sewage system infrastructure. Today, for #RuralHealthDay, I’m re-sharing a recent story that recognizes the importance of providing healthcare to those with limited access through Federally Qualified Health Centers. Early in my career, I moved to Tennessee with my husband and newborn son to join the staff of Morgan County Medical Center and began my career as a family physician. My experience through those years also taught me lessons about the power of partnerships when resources are limited and needs are great. Read more about the impact these centers have had on the people of Morgan County over the years and the careers they have inspired, here: https://cdcf.link/490YTbn
