Campbell County Board of Supervisors to Host Regular Meeting Tuesday RUSTBURG, VA - The Campbell County Board of Supervisors Meeting Agenda for October 1 is available for public viewing. This meeting will be offered via ZOOM for remote viewers.?All Board meetings are accessible to the public. The Campbell County Board of Supervisors provides the opportunity for general public comment at a public meeting at least once per quarter, pursuant to Virginia Code Section 15.2-1416.?At this time, the Board of Supervisors invites any citizen who would like to address the collective Board to come forward and speak on any topic of concern.?Speakers are asked to limit their remarks to no more than three (3) minutes. Campbell County Board of Supervisors & Altavista EDA Announce Incentive Package for Graham Packaging RUSTBURG, VA: The Campbell County Board of Supervisors and Altavista Economic Development Authority (EDA) announce an incentive package to support a major modernization project at Graham Packaging. The incentive of $520,000 will be provided to the company over a four-year period in the form of tax rebates. Graham Packaging, a global manufacturer of sustainable, recyclable packaging, will be investing $20 million in their Altavista facility which is the largest investment made since opening. Graham Packaging’s plant in the Town of Altavista has been in operation for over 15 years. At their meeting on September 3, 2024, the Campbell County Board of Supervisors voted to authorize an economic stimulus grant from the County up to $320,000 based on the company’s capital investment and the Altavista EDA has committed to an additional $200,000 in tax rebates. In March 2024 Campbell County Public Works partnered with Elite Recycling to begin a recycling "pilot program" to offer more recycling opportunities and encourage participation by providing "comingle" containers. The program's focus is collecting scrap metal, including aluminum, along with cardboard, paper and plastic. Our efforts have been successful as we have seen a significant increase in the amount of recyclable material collected, and have received positive feedback from our residents. Unfortunately, due to market demand for plastics, along with the limited types of plastics that can be recycled, we are seeing significant increases in operating costs due to the amount of un-recyclable material that is being pulled from the comingle containers and compactor. In an effort to reduce our operating costs, we are scaling back on the collection of plastics and removing "comingle" collection from all of our sites. We will continue to accept metals, cardboard and mixed paper at all six Convenience Centers. Sorted plastics will only be collected at our Concord and Livestock Road facilities.???????? We will continue to work with Elite Recycling on streamlining our recycling program and hope to bring back comingle collection to all of our sites in the future.
