    AV & Broadcast Engineer

I'm excited to share that I've achieved the rank of Certified Broadcast Networking Technologist with the Society of Broadcast Engineers! I passed the CBNT exam last month, after joining the SBE as a member earlier this summer. I also recently attended my first local SBE event - a BBQ social and tour of the Cedar Street transmission facilities in Needham! None of this professional development would be possible without the support I've received from Cambridge Community Television's staff and Board. Thank you for allowing me these opportunities to learn more about the broadcasting industry, and I'm excited to apply this knowledge to my work with CCTV's Channels 8, 9, and 96!

Member Producer, Live Wire Sessions, at Cambridge Community Television

Since 2009 (six years after graduating with a dual BFA degre from Mass Art) I began learning to create live and prerecorded shows for Cambridge Community Television, and, eventually, learned how to produce my own programs. These experiences opened my mind to a huge field of potential ways to express myself. Though film and videography had not been areas I studied while I was in school, I was very drawn to them as I got involved with a CCTV production crew that needed a cameraperson. Now, nearly sixteen years later, I am the director and producer of Live Wire Sessions with a co-producer I invited to help me and a crew that I put together to create a series of shows we called "Live Wire Sessions". When I started learning about video production with the Bandwidth production crew we would create shows involving one performance and those shows were usually broadcast live. Live Wire Sessions, however, is not broadcast live and we book three to five acts per show. Each show takes a total of about 5 hours to set up and shoot beginning with the performers arriving, setting up, doing sound checks etc. All performances are done in front of a live audience. Shows are produced for the public, and for our own personal enjoyment. Welove what we do, discovering performers and presenting them to audiences. I would never have seen myself making art that requires me to have technical skills related to cameras, audio equipment, lighting, and directing abilities. I didn't dream about doing this. But then the opportunity to learn about video editing, and video cameras and editing software and working together with a crew to make ideas come to life came along at just the right time and I took the plunge. It's not unheard of to start somewhere and then later find yourself searching more, following a path you didn't map out but which calls insistently and that through trial and error brings you to a way that is true to yourself. That happened for me. I still paint but it's not always with the same materials or tools I learned to use. There are elements that persist from art I was making years ago and that surprises me. It always feels good to see that happen. It's like something you're making really wants to be made and keeps sticking its head out and saying Hi there I'm here still. Investigate more. So in my painting practice I continue to do that. Exposure to experimental music was what led to overcoming an artistic block. After attending some noise performances I was inspired to pick up some older pieces of work I'd put to the side and started working on them and made dozens of new pieces. I also got up my courage to ask for help with learning how to use synthesizers. The discovery of how to do both music and visual art is the path I have always needed to explore and develop. Exposing myself to the world of experimental music and noise has helped me to feel more confident and satisfied in exploring all of my interests in music and visual art.
