The world lost a national treasure today. Charlie Munger died at the ripe old age of 99. Condolences to his family, Warren, and business colleagues. He almost became a centenarian. While I know nothing about his personal life and the quality of it, I do know that the investing and business world lost a giant among men. Here are a few things off the top of my head. 1) Candor: You never really had to wonder where Charlie stood on a particular issue. From Crypto and Derivatives to Politics. 2) Intellectual Capacity: His mental models and reverse engineering will have you doing intellectual gymnastics, which is good for the mind. 3) Leaders are readers: He was a voracious reader and his kids thought he was a book with legs. 4) Coach and Challenge: He helped shape and challenge Warren Buffet's investment thesis to think about investing in good companies at fair prices. 5) Empower: The autonomy he and Warren give their companies' executives is a very interesting model for all to consider. 6) Be a great partner: Warren and Charlie were partners for 60+ years. That is astounding. According to Warren, they have never had a fight. According to Buffet, early on they would talk all the time as they considered investments, now they just grunt at each other.
