Martha S. Jones' brilliant new memoir is out now! From the NYT review: "'The Trouble of Color' is a pointed rebuttal to those who still insist that enslaved peoples’ histories are unknowable, or that Black people cannot be trusted as narrators of their own past." The Academy Awards are coming up this Sunday, and we're reminded of Tanisha C. Ford's 2019 piece in The Atlantic: "What the 'Hollywood Jim Crow' Looks Like Today." While dynamics have certainly changed, the piece still highlights some important ways that racial biases show up in instances like the Oscars. If it's been a while, consider revisiting it ?? https://lnkd.in/eigpnMGE #blackhistory #oscarssowhite #academyawards
