Our 2024 benchmark on modern slavery shows that more UK companies have found evidence of modern slavery in their operations or supply chains. 30 of the 110 companies assessed in the benchmark either found evidence of modern slavery in their supply chains, or indicators that some sort of forced labour was taking place. This is an improvement from last year, when only 25 companies disclosed finding modern slavery. How can advisers navigate the evolving SDR landscape? James Corah, head of sustainability at CCLA, joined the panel discussion at today's Impact Investment Academy.

Forced labour is not a bug in the system – it is a feature of the system. Companies should be looking to find and fix forced labour, and investors must encourage them to do so. As investors we can use our ownership rights to improve the sustainability of the assets in which we invest – we can harness our power to end modern slavery. Together we can tip the balance and make business a key tool in the fight against slavery. To kick off the Worthstone | Certified B Corp Impact Investment Academy 2024, Dame Sara Thornton, consultant at CCLA, talks about harnessing the power of investors to end modern slavery. This year’s CCLA modern slavery benchmark has found that 30 of our top UK companies have reported finding modern slavery in their supply chains – we need to encourage all companies to look hard and they will probably find it. We welcomed 90 financial sector leaders and church leaders from 16 countries, all of whom oversee significant investment portfolios. It was a rare meeting with the aim of turbocharging the market for investments that fit with Christian beliefs. Thank you to all speakers and everyone who attended – a truly insightful two days.
