This Giving Tuesday, the Center for Community Engaged Learning is fundraising for our Community Engagement Scholars Program. This program was founded in 2016 in collaboration with the Michigan State University Office of the President and has continuously offered opportunities to undergraduate students at all levels and across all majors and programs. Our Community Engagement Scholars partner with community organizations across the state to address community-identified projects and learn from their own and each other’s experiences and reflections. Help us fund additional placements for our students to connect with our partners this Giving Tuesday! Go to https://lnkd.in/g6dUzUnN to learn more about how you can support our Scholars on December 3rd. #GivingTuesday #CommunityEngagementScholarsProgram

Michigan State University is proud to be recognized as one of the Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting in 2024 by ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge! We are honored to receive this recognition and can’t wait to build upon this success to strengthen our democracy. ?? This impact would not have been possible without the team behind MSUvote, a campus and community initiative co-facilitated by CCEL and the MSU Center for Community and Student Relations. You can learn more about their work at msuvote.msu.edu. Read more at https://ow.ly/Bt3f50Uc9z4. #AllInToVote #StudentVote MSU Student Life & Engagement MSU University Outreach and Engagement

The MSU Center for Community Engaged Learning was pleased to participate in the #IARSLCE 2024 Conference: Intersections. Renee C. Brown, Stephanie Brewer, PhD, and Michelle Snitgen facilitated a roundtable discussion entitled "Exploring Paths to Impact: A Decade of Insights into Community-Engaged Learning at MSU" which highlighted outcomes from a decade-long campus wide data collection process. Stephanie Brewer and Michelle Snitgen also presented a lightning talk entitled "Building Capacity and Support through a Special Topics Series for Community-Engaged Practitioners" which highlighted one of the Academic Programs Team's faculty development programs. Michelle and Stephanie also presented a poster entitled "The Student Story: Developing an Intentional Assessment Plan of Student Learning" which highlighted CCEL's work around the creation of center-wide student learning outcomes. The team was happy to celebrate the efforts of the CCEL team while meeting, reconnecting with, and learning from other community-engagement professionals in the field! This week: join community engagement colleagues from around the world to renew, reset, and reboot for the forthcoming academic year! IARSLCE is offering a two-part virtual series focused on attending to our mental health as community engagement practitioners and scholars while supporting the mental health of our students. If you are a community engagement professional or faculty/graduate student with any level of experience in the field of higher education community engagement, join our own Stephanie Brewer, PhD for session two, Nurturing Student Mental Health through Community-Engaged Pedagogy, on July 23. Stephanie and co-presenters will center pedagogical approaches that foster student mental health and wellbeing within community engaged initiatives, and participants will have the chance to collectively explore ways to prioritize student wellbeing and work to adapt suggested practices to their own diverse campus settings. To register or view the session one recording, visit https://ow.ly/JY3Z50SHmQI. INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH ON SERVICE-LEARNING AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Congratulations to Ella McKanna, a rising senior majoring in social relations and policy and psychology, who has been named a 2024-25 Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact, a national nonprofit made up of civic and community engagement experts at colleges and universities. The Newman Civic Fellowship, hosted by Campus Compact, is a year-long program that recognizes and supports student public problem solvers. As a Newman Civic Fellow, Ella will participate in a year-long program that provides students with opportunities for learning, networking, and collaborating to effectively create positive change in their community. Throughout the fellowship year, students will have opportunities to develop strategies for social change, create a network of connected and engaged student leaders, and enhance skill development and professional learning. Ella McKanna was nominated to represent Michigan State University as a Newman Civic Fellow because of her involvement as a CCEL Community Engagement Scholar, her work as a Collegiate Student Advisory Task Force Member, her time as a Campus Vote Project Democracy Fellow, and because of her commitment to public leadership. We are thrilled to have Ella representing our Center and our campus, and look forward to the impact she is sure to make! Did you know that 2023-2024 was a transition and record-setting year for our Student Volunteer Programs? In the past year, we: ?? Piloted our new volunteer matching system, Spartans Volunteer with our Fall/Spring into Action events. ?? We transitioned all the volunteer data from the Civic Life App into the Spartans Volunteer platform. ?? We had a record setting number, 130, Spartan Volunteer Service Award student recipients. ?? We provided personal hygiene/survival kits and warm winter gear to those in need. ?? We even had a special guest attend our kickoff rally for our Spring Spartan Day of service, our new MSU President Dr. Guskiewicz! With all those amazing things that happened last year, we have a special new program for students coming Fall 2024 called the Spartan Volunteer Corps. Continue to engage with us for more details on this program and other exciting opportunities for the 2024-2025 year. #Wow #WrapUp #YearlyWrapUp #SpartansServe #Volunteer #VolunteerPrograms #MSU #GoGreen
