It’s time we address the weak spots in the diverse leadership pipeline. This Women’s History Month, CBT’s Women in Design initiative is rising to answer the call. This month, CBT WiD will dig into the who, what, why, when, and how to grow emerging leaders. With guest speakers who inspire, workshops designed to bolster skills and understanding, and group discussions to connect participants with mentorship and support, this Women’s History Month is a call to action. We want to grow our pipeline to diversify our leadership, both here at CBT and across our industry. Consider this a visible and intentional step towards a future WHEN WOMEN LEAD. The installation in our office lobby displays the traits associated with leaders who have made a meaningful impact on our lives and offers a reminder of what we aspire to as we grow and lead in our own careers.

“A majority of the conversation around sustainability in architecture has focused on mitigating environmental impact, i.e. producing less waste and doing less harm to the planet. While this is a critical pillar of environmentally conscious design, our current climate crisis calls for more aggressive action.” Proud to see CBT Principal Henry Lucantonio Celli quoted in Green Building and Design! In GB&D’s latest article on regenerative design, Henry encourages the AEC industry to look beyond a net-zero approach to sustainability and seek restorative design strategies that mimic natural, regenerative systems and give back more than they take from our environment. The interior design of Idyl Fenway introduces unique spaces that are distinct, bold, and energetic yet still feel like home. Unexpected patterns and colors infuse each space with a distinct character and charm, while the ample outdoor access and city views enhance neighborhood connections.

CBT is reimagining a renowned Art Deco parking structure in the heart of Boston as a high-end, future-ready residential tower. The Motor Mart garage, which was constructed in 1927 on Stuart Street, was known as the largest parking garage in the world at that time. Its ornate details and understated elegance in design infuse the building with a unique identity that will pervade the new 20-story tower through a series of design components. When complete, the 314,000-square-foot, 230-unit tower will breathe new life into the surrounding urban neighborhood while maintaining the integrity and beauty of the original building.

Happy #InternationalLegoDay! Revisiting this fun, familiar medium with an exploratory study which shows how we can think about the future of existing malls and mega centers, as well as the potential of these sites to better serve their communities in new and profound ways. Once serving as grand-scale altars to the retail industry, many of these large shopping centers are in dire need of new ideas for a rapidly-changing culture and society. The full-length stop-motion clip was produced here in-house as a showcase of how we think out of the [Lego] box, what residents and owners can glean from this precious real estate, and how designers can be the linchpin to solving the ever-pressing question: "What do we do next?" See how art galleries, co-working, seasonal pop-ups, affordable housing, green rooftops, and medical resources (and the list goes on!) could all be part of malls' next generation in our communities. The new Idyl Fenway building at 60 Kilmarnock in the Fenway neighborhood provides a new and contextually sensitive residential environment in a dynamic and evolving part of Boston. This thoughtfully scaled eight-story, 365-unit multifamily development is a welcome addition to its neighborhood. With new neighborhood connections, landscaped areas, and the preservation of century-old street trees, the design embraces an overall biophilic approach that provides residents with a daily connection to nature and respite from traditional city views. Stay tuned to learn more about the Fenway’s newest neighbor.
